    No she’s a Black woman

Harry Styles got AOTY (with his blandest and most derivative record) before Janet Jackson, Prince, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, Tyler The Creator, Janell

  • Based on the precedent set by the Recording Academy, yes she should win. It's the perfect combination of critical acclaim (90 on MC), commercial success (10 weeks at #1, Kill Bill being a monster smas

I feel like Lana has a bigger chance although I love both albums

Morgan will probably win sadly without the committee blocking his nomination

It would be great if she wins. But I would also like to see a band win.

It baffles me so many of y’all still care about Grammys in 2023 :bibliahh:

She should. But more than likely some album nobody ever heard will win despite SOS being one of the biggest album of the year. When a black artist checks all the boxes for AOTY that’s usually the stunt the Grammy’s pull.

No but she's dominating the r&b categories and hopefully a main category like ROTY or a maybe a pop cat too.

Lana definitely isn't winning a pop award ever. Pop Vocal Album always goes to the best-seller of the year. Just look at the recipiants. It's going to Taylor or Olivia for sure. SOTY nom might be possible for AW

  • Harry's House (Harry) beat 30 (Adele).
  • Future Nostalgia (Dua) beat Folklore (Taylor).
  • Sweetener (Ariana) beat Reputation (Taylor).
  • In The Lonely Hour (Sam) beat X (Ed Sheeran).
  • Stronger (Kelly Clarkson) beat The Truth About Love (P!nk) and Overexposed (Maroon V).

Trends have changed significantly in the last 10 years.

I hope so. Nothing anyone else releases is going to be more worthy than SOS.

she has a chance for sure but i could see someone unexpected winning like the year jon batiste won.

Pop Vocal Album isn't really correlated with album sales, it's more about the success of the album's singles on pop radio.

HH beating 30, FN beating folklore, and sweetener beating reputation all make sense when you look at how their respective singles did on pop radio. Unless Olivia's new album pulls another Sour, Midnights is pretty much locked for PVA. Lana is not the type of artist to get significant pop support at the Grammys.

No it wouldn't. The apbum is good but she has way too many collaboraters, if she wins they'd be awarded as well. Grammy tends to not award AOTY with many collabs. She's sweeping the R&B category tho. Also, this year AOTY won't be a mainstream album....

weak year and she does have a decent chance... i have to say yes

Harry Styles got AOTY (with his blandest and most derivative record) before Janet Jackson, Prince, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, Tyler The Creator, Janelle Monaé, and FKA Twigs. The Grammys couldn't care less about optics, they just do whatever the hell they want (nearly always in favour of the status quo - white, safe, and 'palatable')

At this stage, the Recording Academy is more likely to give their highest honour of the night to Morgan Wallen than to give SZA her flowers. :rip:

I wouldn't count out a fourth Taylor AOTY either.

Harry Styles got AOTY with a critically acclaimed album that was commercially successful and had the biggest song of the eligibility period. The album also won Best Engineered and BPVA at the Grammys, as well as multiple Grammy equivalent awards in about 10 other countries (Canada, Australia, Spain, UK, etc). It was shortlisted to the Mercury Prize and won an Ivor Novello award for songwriting. Songwriter of the Year went to one of its collaborators as well.

We can agree that a lot of artists of color deserve bigger accolades, but clearly this album in particular wasn't the issue.

SZA isn't winning AOTY because the Grammys got rid of the 30% rule and now all collaborators get rewarded, regardless of how minimal their contribution is, so they're not gonna give AOTY to an album with big list of credits. I also sincerely doubt Midnights is getting it. I feel like Taylor underperformed last year, and they had to set up Folklore really well for it to win in 2020 (for instance, blocking anyone who was a strong contender outside of Taylor, such as Fiona Apple and The Weeknd). Taylor has been underperforming at the Grammys since 1989. Despite Taylor submitting and getting nominated every single year for the past six years (16 nominations), she "only" won 2.

The winner will either be someone who hasn't released yet or someone similar to Job Batiste in 2022, imo.

Lana would be lucky to get nominated now that the panel doesn't exist anymore.

She would be a fitting winner, but sadly I don’t see her winning.

For the record, I don’t think Midnights will win, either. I feel like they’re going to go the ‘less commercial winner’ route again next year.
