Not Gaga apparently having "too much control over the producers" now??? :ahh::rip: Girl, bye.

The problem with, and the most common complaint that has been around her latest album, is precisely the reduced amount of creative control that she chose to exercise as a producer compared to her previous albums and thus the missing trademark "Gaga" stamp baked into the production.

In fact, it's literally the ONLY album of hers where she has ZERO production credits across the board (except the interludes) :rip: which, let me be clear, doesn't mean that she was not involved at all in the production process, just not actively and significantly enough to warrant and give herself a production credit. And all her interviews post-release where she talks about being depressed and not being in the right headspace confirmed how much checked out she really was mentally while making it.

Quote

the beginning of the record all i had to do was walk down a flight of stairs to get to the studio and by the end of making the album i was driving like my 73 nova to henson studio and i was wearing all my gear and like my style was redeveloping as a person and i know that sounds weird but i know that you know this about me but if i'm not doing well mentally like i don't have style i don't have a personality really like my personality is just someone that's like drowning or feels like they're drowning

Gaga is an excellent producer with a very strong point of view and a very specific vision for what she wants her songs to sound and feel like. This is the same woman who once pushed a producer as generic as RedOne to churn out pop masterpieces one after another, to the point where his work with her completely eclipses everything else in his production discography by lightyears. The same woman who made underground/less-known producers like DJWS and Garibay famous overnight. The same woman who pretty much single-handedly produced songs like Venus and Shallow, with little to no external assistance. Let's not question what she brings to the table as a (co-) producer.

Instead, we should be advocating and hoping for Gaga to be exercising MORE control again, being in the right headspace free from her personal demons willingly wanting to create music and having free reins and being fully involved in every part of the creation process and enjoying that process for all her albums going forward, not LESS. That's when she's at her best and it shines through in her output - from the melodies to the lyrics to the vocals and most importantly, the production choices.

BP is actually a good producer, it’s just that Nose has too much control over her producers

BP is a very good producer indeed but I don’t think Gaga has too much control. To me she’s a perfect collaborator and she did an amazing job on Chromatica as a backing producer and it was something she needed to try and the album turned out to be great, it has both - Gaga’s signature style and some new and fresh sounds.

I hope she will continue with sharing producing (being a co producer would be perfect) on her next releases because that’s where her music truly shines.

I really don't think there is anything wrong with Chromatica, she just shouldn't wait this long to follow it up with another album. The longer you wait the more critical people will be.

Can we finally admit Cheat On Me (with Ariana Grande) is not the best song on Chromatica?

It’s not the best song on that piece of art, correct.

I feel like realistically we get nothing significant prior to Joker

I am confusion. I thought that narrative against BP was that he "controlled and forced Gaga"?

Both takes are wrong.

They admit the production of Chromatica was mostly BP, and the tracks where BP wasn't involved so much (i.e., Replay) are way better than the rest. And let's be honest, when Gaga is involved it's mostly for the better.

Look at Bloodpop/ Blood Diamonds’ credits and remove all of his work with TABS legend.  It’s pretty consistent and good.  His work with Gaga is honestly the main outlier.  We had the same problems with Mark Ronson and Tame Impala, both of which are amazing producers who made mediocre work with Gaga.  Stop blaming everything on her producers.

It never was, only chart obsessed twinks claimed so

I agree.

I listened to her Apple music thing, but I completely forgot about that quote. It makes so much sense. How she's doing with depression and all that does have an effect on creativity and output, like I'm going through that now where I'm living life on autopilot. I paint and sketch as hobby, and I just lose the will to do anything remotely creative, or anything beyond the bare necessities/daily routine when I'm in a depressed state, so the fact that she even put out an album while feeling like that is impressive, and Chromatica still had that big ambitious feel to it whether people agree or disagree about its contents. (I personally thought the songwriting is getting stronger, there are just some tracks where it's like, she gave up and didn't push herself).

I just hope she can find a way out of the forest, and get to better times again. I hope she can heal and get her confidence back, which I feel like has been missing for a long time. Her spirit just seemed crushed for a while. I was listening to the Like a Virgin podcast recently (cultural podcast that is like a bitchier Las Culturistas), and they did a Gaga focused ep recently, and the way they talked about her seemed so sad, yet a lot more pessimistic POV than I have of her currently. The light has gone out of her a bit, and she is obviously weary, but at the end of the day she has a fighting spirit, and I do think they were being a bit much about her current state. Like, depression comes in waves, and she'll find her way. I think we are all missing her spark.
