Why would Barbie get nominated for BA? That would be like Tom Cruise getting nominated for Top Gun or Robert Downy Jr getting nominated for Iron Man

Tom Cruise was like 7-8th in predictions last year, he could have happened if actor category was less stacked because of the strenght of the movie, when it comes to actress there's no much competition this year, I can see her being nominated easily.

Especially lately having a strong movie can give more advantage than the performace itself, see Jamie Lee Curtis win this year and we have seen it also with the last Emmy nominations.

It’s only July, we don’t really know how competitive the Oscar race is going to be. This whole situation reminds me of when everyone was so sure that last Spider-Man movie was going to be nominated for best picture

Can’t wait for Gaga’s next Oscar nomination :gaycat6:

Are you referring to No Way Home? That never had a real chance. It wasn't even able to get into PGA, who regularly nominate blockbusters. The industry and critics didn't take it seriously. On the other hand, Barbie is legitimately acclaimed and seen as a triumph for Gerwig and Co. It has a lot going for it.

N E Way, Joker is coming to smash and GaGa chewed as Lee I just know it :gaycat4:

It's different, traditional superheroes Marvel movies like Spider-Man never gets nominated, the only exception is 'Black Panther' for various reasons, 'Barbie' is a Greta Gerwig movie, she has been nominated more times and she is considered a prestigious filmmaker, the movie is easily getting some nominations, it just needed to be well received by critics and box office result, it has both.

I really hope 'The Color Purple' to not getting delayed, even if it's her first movie, the actress starring on it has already got acclaim for that role on Broadway and she has tones of buzz.

It's more about what media outlets and pundits are hyping than my thoughts tho, De Armas had buzz before the movie release and she still managed to get nominated despite the movie being totally panned which was impressive all considered, there was clearly some passion for her performance, however 'The Color Purple' is a total different scenario than that movie, it's not gonna be a divisive, the original one was beloved by the Academy, it could turn out mid of course but honestly the trailer looks promising and the actress already got acclaimed for the same performance at Broadway.

Thank god Barbie is just an alright movie... I remember when people were juxtaposing Gaga's Harley and Margot's Barbie.

But Gaga's crown is secured!

Just alright movie doesn't really hit 80 on MC and opens with 300M+ on BO

Surprised to see you guys saying that Margot actually has a chance to be nommed for Barbie thats crazy. Wasnt expecting that even knowing its from Greta Gerwig. Always thought it was a blockbuster only that could get in tech categories like production/costume design and hair/make up but never the acting categories. I heard the buzz for Gosling and thought he could compete on supporting since its easier to get in sometimes.

But thinking about it if we’re expecting Gaga to compete on Best Actress playing a comic book character on a sequel movie (considering its rare to see sequel at the oscars), Margot shouldnt be much of a stretch. Actually Margot being nominated might help Gaga’s Harleen chances..

The opening of a movie has more to do with hype and marketing than quality. Critics always overhype Gerwig and Nolan movies.

There are lots of films which fails even with big hype and marketing.

I’m still not over the Oscars snubbing her in HOG.
Like… her acting was really on point imo

It was bullshit.

It happens. Good actresses get snubbed all the time. I’ll be worried if she gets snubbed next year.

Yeah, if she is snubbed for two major roles in a row then she has a problem, unless JFAD ends up panned or something.

The only one golden globe nomination was a bit of a sign that she was up against it. HoG was better received globally both in gross and critic bodies e.g. the Bafta love, her in the paris critics circle

Not at all. Why do you guys tend to think Oscar noms are so easy to get? Some legends like Nicole Kidman or Julianne Moore have only like 5/6 noms and their ultra-respected movie careers span like +20 years of work.

And winners like Ariana DeBose, Alicia Vikander or Ke Huy Quan probably won't be nominated ever again like it usually happens. It's complicated.

That pressure on Gaga is not healthy and it's unrealistic. Don't let ATRL losers or annoying Film Twitter stans tell you something different.

is Tonys and Gagas Cheek To Cheek PBS special available for streaming anywhere?

Cruz & Stewart campaigned like no tomorrow behind the scenes private screening parties, etc that allowed them to push more #1 votes than Gar last min, its similar to the whole Andrea fiasco where instead of regularly campaigning, she had fellow actors boost her film & visibility nonstop during nomination voting week that threshed her over both Viola & Daniel

ATRL always talks about how horrible LMs we’re back in the day as if LMs weren’t 10-20 years old during Gaga’s peak. It’s not like the Britney or Beyoncé fandoms who averaged around 20-35 at the same time, or the millennial Swifties nowadays.

In an alternate universe she remixed this with Shakira & Bad Bunny and it was bigger than Despacito in the summer of 2017
