I think we need a bit more time for act 3 and the visuals but I'd be here for her to repeat the "enjoy!" when closing a random tour date and then dropping the RWT that same night, like when she dropped self titled like 30 minutes after performing

what was the controversial moment?

this is my guess, girlbye please dm me backstage passes if correct...

Spoiler

She gets shot at the end of SPAGHETTII, the lyrics:

Outlaws with me, they gon' shoot
Keep the code, break the rules (Break the rules)
We gon' ride for every member that we lose
Someone here brought fire, ain't no tellin' who (Oh)
Play it cool
Know the lawman watchin' me every time I move (Move)
Bounty on my head, can't go west, they on my shoes
No matter what the charges is, we ain't gon' tell the truth

And I think her dancers would come up with their hands up right after (like they do in the formation video)

edit: ALSO at the end of Spaghetti she looks like she's in Radar, but it also looks like crosshair

This just makes sense. Especially for the Renaissance segment.

Politely pushing back on this because IMO it was actually the other way around!

BMS was almost too GP-friendly (from the sample to how sonically reminiscent it is to a lot of general EDM). If anything, it was the very calculated isms she sprinkled on it (see: rap-sung parts, Big Freedia) that took it out of generic EDM bop. But generally, it was the most palatable thing she has given the GP in years (and remains as such alongside Cuff It). If anything, it was the Hive who had (and have) issues with BMS for the exact reasons shared.

Texas, while extremely GP-friendly (and enjoyed a successful run reflective of this), is actually one of her riskier releases. It, for one, does not sound like a Beyonce track at all. It also sounds, for lack of a better term, borderline gimmicky. Almost like an instrumental from a Donkey Kong game lol. Upon listening, I was very much: this could go one of two ways. The GP could eat it up or it would be a bit of a stain. Thankfully, things went well. But, even in enjoying the song, I don't see it being a staple on future setlists. It's a bit of an outlier. And once we've taken off our Cowboy hats and moved on to new musical pastures, it's kinda hard to see where a Texas Hold Em even fits into even a general greatest hits-flavored setlist. It'd actually be way easier for her to integrate Bodyguard, II Most Wanted, Jolene, and similar. And we've already seen, by how she did BMS this tour, that she isn't scared to leave off even recent #1 hits from the setlist.

I just wanna say I really love it when we can like just talk about Beys catalogue in a civil and engaged way like this cos too many ppl on this base just fight 😭😭

but yeah you're not wrong about BMS—I'm glad it's not on the setlist in a way but it's the most obvious sign Bey literally doesn't give a crap about including hits for the GPs sake on her stadium tours (which honestly is risky in the long term but she's able to skate thru atm with that mentality and that pleases me)

She doesn't need to be performing Jolene past 2025 that's for damn sure.  I still get the wrong kind of shivers whenever I listen to "Jolene… you know I'm a queen".

It would be iconic if this was the new changing outfit thing for this tour.

I could see some of the less labor intensive moments being "the" segment for this if true. E.g. where Riverdance is placed. Would be super easy to slot in sing-a-long-song moments with ish like Irreplaceable, All Night etc.

At the same time, it does feel a bit fan-fic-ish lol.

We all know it takes sis a moment for the show to really settle into her bones. She's effectively learning and perfecting it in real time. Changing it with each changing date sounds like an unnecessary headache lol. And I say that as someone who would love it.

At the same time (again, lol!), this whole tour is largely mapped out almost like a residency in each city. So, tweaking the show every 4-5 dates doesn't feel "that" bad.

We'll see/

We know by now that Bey is really tapped into BeyHive internet (mimicking the 2H2H dance, recreating the Diva tiktok, using TikTok DJs mixes on tour etc), so I do wonder if the very last minute clamour online for her to sing All Night on this tour will encourage her to add it at a later date? Especially when she's said it's her fav song from Lemonade

as a tangent, it's surprising to me that Sorry, Hold Up, Love Drought and 6 Inch haven't really been given any love in such a long time?  Maybe she finds them painful, or maybe she's trying to avoid songs too heavily linked to Jay to dodge the current media landscape? It's curious.

Some sort of Sorry x Jolene mix could be fun, or an interpolation of Jolene into a song like Irreplaceable, but yes I agree. Unfortunately it's like one of her only top 10 hits from this era.

I never liked Sorry neither. I feel like the whole Jay Z infidelity is like beating a dead horse at this point, I sigh whenever these songs come around. She can leave all those in the past and keep performing Alien Superstar, Thique, Freakum Dress snippets and Bodyguard for eternity.

I agree with the infidelity thing — that's why I find Jolene so tiring. I know Ms Parton was gagging for years for Bey to cover Jolene, but for ME I think the best Dolly song Beyoncé could have covered would have been Coat of Many Colours.

its literally a song about a girl being so grateful for her mother, and about her mother making clothes for her to wear because they didn't have access to the nicest stuff.

if that doesn't sound like the perfect dedication to Tina Seamstress Knowles - WHILE ALSO inserting Destiny's Child into a pre-existing country canon - I don't know what does!!

it would have been PERFECT

Still feel like 9-5 could've been a perfect Dolly cover because of the way its a thematic sister to break my soul

I will never get the beef some of the Hive have with Jolene. Bey's version is elite. Before even hearing the album, the mere thought of Bey "doing a Country album" had songs in the soudnscape of Jolene, Bodyguard, and similar top of my mind. So, I've been more than happy with it.

It's clear Bey agrees, because the live performance is very much giving one of the centerpiece attractions of the show.

ALSO YES!

Id choose Coat of Many Colours over 9-5 only because I feel like it fits in with the autobiographical angle of Cowboy Carter (which really focuses on motherhood, ancestry and children), but the real goofy fun energy of 9-5 is mostly missing on the CC studio album I think.

i actually was watching her perform Alligator Tears on tiktok early and realised how much her charisma and performance lightens what is a pretty heavy song. I think that's one thing a no-visuals trilogy risks—the visuals can help create a tone and an atmosphere for these records, and the utter camp nature of the cowboy Carter visuals would have helped me on my first listen of the album I think to fully get what she was going for

Fun song, just feels like a narrative retread of some very worn ground

Why is it so quiet on day 2 of the show???  That's unusual for a new Beyonce concert.

Yeah Jolene would have hit in 2013-2016, at the time people liked that kind of statement about flipping the script. But with Gen z and their obsession with "relatability" and self depreciation from artists, songs like alien superstar and Jolene didn't click, which is unfortunate.  It's Beyoncé's whole aesthetic and sound that isn't vibing with them.

Fair!

I guess I like that she flipped it and avoided the "begging" someone not to take her man angle of the original lol.

I'm actually ok with that (re Gen Z).

I'm more than happy with Bey being the one enduring beacon of an era long gone. The superhero superstar. It's literally baked into her point of appeal. People moan about it, but the reason she is so fanned over is because she has presented herself as an attraction - rather than the relatable girl next door. I legit question if she would be "as" big/revered if her image prioritised relatability.

As long as she mounts the right kind of strategy to sell her music and tours, she'll continue to be fine.

The relatability/Gen-Z disconnect ought to be an issue for the Tyla's and other newbies

no, I imagine he wont be due to that issue from last year. Even though he was cleared, people are idiots

I think the thing about Single Ladies is it's so definitive FOR the dance, that she can't really perform it and NOT do that exact choreography. She could update it like she does CIL's routine, but that would dampen the nostalgia people have for it, whereas as long as she does some sort of booty shake to the CIL "uh oh"s, it still works.

so true. cannot imagine her trying to get through single ladies now with that knee :rip: the side by side videos would be brutal

But her being this perfect being that cannot be replicated and will always stand above everyone else in the game is her whole thing. When Lemonade dropped the narrative wasn't "ooooh she got cheated on poor thing she's just like me", the conversation was "how could he cheat on the most perfect woman in history?".

No let's keep it that way. I'm so glad we haven't seen much of him recently. Go enjoy your kids and keep that coke can away from her.
