Beyoncé does what BEYONCÉ wants. And it won't change even if just 2 people come to her show.

Idk I prefer it when artists reinvent themselves and a tour is an opportunity to re-introduce us to their back catalogue in a new way we haven't heard it before. We've already seen the RWT so why re-hash it so much? I loved Renaissance and there were certain songs that fit into CC's vibe like Church Girl which I'm happy she included, but others like Heated didn't need to be performed this time. Just my opinion, you don't have to agree.

it's a 3 hour show with a RWT segment of less than 20 min

 

she literally does every song on CC. Every song was played on that stage

Also maybe you just aren't getting the concept.

 

Think of this tour as one long one with three album acts but the same story.

 

all the acts are connected as one.

 

for each tour she does for each act she will dedicate  sections to each act because they idea is that it's one multiverse. It is very conceptual and brilliant 

 

that's exactly why she said "welcome back to Renee". The interlude clearly showed that 

She could have really done COUNTRY and it's not that I'm dismissing "Black country" or Houston country so to speak. I actually feel I Been On deserved a whole performance. I just think she could have really gone that bit further with her Cowboy Carter persona rather than being a few different aesthetics at once. All of a sudden she took us to the 80s Ballroom scene, which originated in… New York :/ 

 

Anyways I DID like the campy Americana vibe, and someone said before she was referencing Twin Peaks in the visuals which I caught onto since Act I with the red curtain. She tells a story about America with this show for sure, and the forced hate of her singing the Anthem on twitter is TRAGIQUE. The setlist is just imperfect to me tho

In one regard, I like and appreciate this tour's continuity from the RWT. It feels like an extension of that show with CC album as its core. Not a huge giant incline on any one single front, but a solid next chapter. I also think she's building towards a trilogy tour for Act III's era that will center on all three albums with only slight sprinkles of her wider catalog.

 

At the same time, it's ok for some of us to feel there are "notes" for this tour. I think what Yung was saying is that the Country soundscape of this tour lends itself to her really getting into that bag and merging songs from her broader discography that could and should easily live in this "world". She's done it with the likes of Daddy Lessons, Why Don't You Love Me, etc, but omissions like Irreplaceable, All Night, If I Were A Boy, Single Ladies don't really make sense. I respect her artistic license, but leaving these off in favor of Thique and Before I Let Go literally doesn't make sense lol. 

 

It's a pain point having such a stellar, full, and iconic catalog. But sometimes it's ok to be a bit more literal and on-the-nose. Especially when the reality is that CC isn't "as" known by the GP as Rennie was. Put simply, the balance to strike would be selling CC (as she is) and helping that process along by giving the GP something familiar and easy to digest (see: the omitted songs) to support that process along. Particularly as there's a lot of innovation and excellence to be found across the rest of the show.

@Kingdom babe, you don't need to be so defensive. Saying one would've loved to see a stripped back, acoustic segment within the context of her "Country"-Tour is neither outrageous nor sth to lose ur mind over. Its absolutely understandable.

Its her tour and thus her vision, but its not like people cant voice opinions, critiques or wishes. I, too, would've loved for her to strip it back and give some room to older Country leaning songs. Her whole thing since the launch of CC was "I been Country", so for me its a missed opportunity to highlight those songs of the past that had Country elements to them, such as Suga Mama and Irreplaceable for instance.

I've long taken a wait-and-see approach to what Act III will be, but it's so clearly Rock at this point. She's not even hiding it. 

 

From the Tina Turner nods like this pic (which have nothing to do with Country per se) to the quick flash of her as Little Richard in the intelude etc to the fact it easily lends itself to her established sound (with the marketing of it as "Rock" being the key differential), CR Fashion Book tease, makes it surefire IMO.

 

I'm anticipating something at the intersection of Proud Mary, Nutbush City Limits, Don't Hurt Yourself, 6 Inch, and Suga Mama. 

 

Wasn't there even tea or speculation that YaYa was originally from Act III?

 

On a separate but related note, I'm really keen to see/hear what the lead/s will be? Using both Acts I and II as the yardstick, she typically comes out swinging with her most commercial sounding singles from the albums. In a Rock capacity, much as I love the songs mentioned above, they don't really fit the bill. Will be interesting to see how she approaches it all.

Starting in the United States and Los Angeles specifically is so smart. Like CCT opening show is everywhere 😭 Due to insane amounts of content, it hasn't even felt like 2/3 days but it is showday today already again?! The post-CCT drought will be so rough because the tour ends in July 😭

The way I assumed Cowboy Carter would be Daddy Lessons-esque makes me weary of assuming her past rock to rock-esque songs will indicate anything about Act III. I'm so excited though! She's gonna eat.

I sometimes also get that feeling, but that just means to log off a bit and relax. You are in the base, everyone he adores Bey and wants the best for her.

Its literally ALWAYS like that after each opening night: Expectations were there, she has her own vision, and people comment. There's no malice towards her.

Its the same with her albums. 

First everyone has their own theories, then Beyonces realization hits, then we are overwhelmed taking it in and we immediately compare it to our expectations (thats when critiques happen), and then her realization hits and we end up eating it all the way up nnn

Thank you for articulating your opinion so well. Just because we have notes for Beyoncé doesn't mean we're trying to whitewash her lmfao. I probably said the same thing when Gaga did the Joanne World Tour which was way different from the album's original concept, while STILL recognizing it was a good show. I'm not singling artists out based on their race as someone else suggested.

To your credit, maybe you do understand more of the cultural resonances more than I do! It's not gonna stop me from putting in my two cents about a tour that costs a fortune to attend and didn't live up to my expectations. Are people getting the bang for their buck if she doesn't perform her best songs?

True, but I think with the whole "reclaiming Black sounds" narrative of the trilogy at large, that flavor of Rock is essentially a shoo-in. She unlikely to start doing Metal or anything super out of the box as it wouldn't align with the vision.

MTE! It's a testament to how great her discography is that we all have songs we're dying to hear, but at the end of the day somebody is always going to be let down because she has produced so much over 25 (?) years.
