While we are talking about Black is King and its lack thereof promo, something that always rubbed me the wrong way is when it got zero Emmy noms then Ms. Tina tried to slyly accuse Disney of racism by "not promoting it" :rip: I really hope that was her own thoughts and not a reflection of Bey's mindset because wow that was incredibly wrong and self-victimizing. Disney actually promoted the film quite a bit, I saw many ads across social media and even TV. Disney can only do so much if the main person behind the film, Bey, is not doing anything herself.

compilation is a visual, yes. But now we're getting into semantics.

What is meant when we say "visuals" are "music videos", and ones assumed to feature/star Beyoncé. If not, then okay we got the official BREAK MY SOUL visual. Now will we stop complaining about "where are the visuals?" No, because it's a compilation video, not a "visual".

A compilation is a visual. It wasn't even about semantics for me. I just feel like if "just the music" was her intent, why release compilations and visualizers for songs at all? That was only my point, nothing more.

Also a lot of actual videos are compilations or outtakes of concerts, shouting etc.

Can you ever guarantee someone will focus on music alone unless you release just the music alone though? That's my point.

You can't guarantee that with just the music either. You also can't guarantee that someone who is visual will even bother.

She doesn't have to pick one or the other, and both can be used in different ways to achieve the goal she's aiming for in any moment, relative to the pop climate, her own career, or however she feels.

That's true. She doesn't have to pick one or the other. And I do remember that before the teaser (another visual that depicts a song of the album and acts like a small visual of the whole album, which invalides that argument again) , some of us here being against a whole film again. It's not necessary. I just don't think a logic that imo is detrimental to artistic expression (imo ofc) needs to be put forth as a justification.

If the visuals were always meant to come in 2023 then why not release more teasers and trailers and actual dates. Even a window of when to expect them would’ve been nice but this only fuels the insider tea that they are planned for summer 2023 on HBO Max :deadbanana:

so they must be faaaaaaaaar away :skull:

The way people are so bothered about Renaissance.

A bunch of samples.

100+ writers.

They only like it because of context.

But tbh days like July 29th are when I understand why the woman has so many haters. And the fact that the album is actually recognized for its brilliance. I get how a small mind could be filled with hatred. My first month listening experience was one like no other tbh.

The acclaim for Renaissance is amazing to witness. It's such a great album. I hope it ends up with the AOTY at the Grammy. She deserves it after being robbed both for Self-Titled and Lemonade.

I just hope the visuals are coming soon, it's been way too long now.

The premature teaser was essentially the part that messed her up tbh :lakitu:

That and the damn “ACT: I” and little 3 part footnote in the album booklet.

Anyways, all these #1 best album of the year placings…. Who says fave doesn’t do any Grammy campaigning?  :gaycat2:

I really want to make some threads asking “WHY and SURPRISE” regarding these year end lists, but I can’t afford to be shady at the moment

That ship has sailed long ago, let it go already. There's no 'ah ha!' moment anymore when the visuals drop.

Sure, there's gonna be some amazing videos and we'll all watch and enjoy and gag as fans, but the experience has already been tainted. The impact they will have will be minimal at this point. And I'm not referring to the general public and commercial success, but to the mark it will leave on her fans and career as a whole. Because the novelty of the album has worn off already.

Look at BIK, there's arguably some of her best visuals in there. How many of you think of it as one of your fondest memories of Beyonce, one of the highlights and most notable moments of her career in the way ST and Lem were? It's not for nothing they say 'strike while the iron is hot'. This is only going to be much worse because the expectations were much higher for her first studio album in 6 years unlike the side project for the lion king. It has left a sour taste in my mouth and I'm sure I'm not alone in this; fans are gonna complain about it for the rest of her career most probably. This has been one of the most disappointing experiences as a fan of anybody in my life.

This is a very different situation from the gift because nobody expected visuals. With this album ppl are complaining and theorizing about the visuals everyday it’s still gonna be a huge collapse

If u read closely ud know I dont care for them. But ill stay just to piss u off even further :-*

Renaissance getting all the acclaim. Whew.

Also, on the topic of streaming/streams, I want to remind people that it truly is accumulative and you need momentum and remain in the forefront of people’s mind whether publicly or musically. Beyoncé’s hiatus did hurt her streaming capability on Spotify but Renaissance is certainly helping her regain her foot on that platform. If there is truly an Act II/Act III, this is the perfect way to build the momentum and create a strong streaming power. Ariana/Taylor/Drake all did the same when they did subsequent releases. Promotion would help, but imo I think momentum with releases is way more important in the streaming era. Anyways, Look at her numbers lately on Spotify. She’s been steadily sitting around 45M to 50M after Ren in monthly listeners. She’s definitely gaining back interest with younger listeners after BMS/Cuff It/Ren.

Precisely. Nearly 50M monthly listeners is amazing, and Act II, Act III and the tour will all help it grow.

they may have a larger-than-life persona but no one vilifies them for it the way they do Beyoncé. Greta Garbo is a very notable one. Her reclusiveness is like an asset to her legacy, something people joke about but also say without an ounce of judgement.

I wouldn't make this comparison. Garbo is essentially a non-factor today, largely because she was ghost af. Marlene Dietrich, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, and many other stars who worked like soldiers till the deathbed, weren't publicly dismissive or scornful of their own careers, and had a strictly distant but highly respectful and fruitful relationship with decades-long fans, are all far better remembered today. Dietrich had more of her movies released on Blu-ray in one month at the height of the coronavirus pandemic than Garbo has had since the dawn of the format a decade and a half ago (a total of two); all three of the aforementioned women have titles in the Criterion Collection while Garbo has none. It doesn't help that her sound filmography is roundly panned and aged like milk; while Dietrich was bringing a new brand of sexuality and glamour to the world stage and Davis was inventing modern screen acting, Garbo was going through the motions and deadass waiting to retire. We don't want Bey to be today's Garbo, she's too important to lose the way Garbo got lost.

I know we are at Beyonce’s mercy, but I can’t imagine these visuals are coming AFTER the Grammys. Like what would be the point. And what about ACT II.

Also, I really think Beyoncé just digs the knife in sometimes like with that BMS YouTube video. She has to know that the Stan’s are ready to block her.

I think if the full visuals were gonna take so long, she should have released the videos for the singles at the very least. Had she done that at the bare minimum then I think fans wouldn’t be so pissed and hype would still kinda be there. Like just upload BMS and CI on YouTube and then tease the full film. That’s what ITG should have been

This is why I think they're stuck on a deal with a major streaming service.

The BMS video should have been out in July and/or early August after the album release.

CUFF IT would make sense to drop sometime after the Christmas season.

Regardless, it's clear they want to put then all out at once. I would say this is the first time in a while where excitement and anticipation didn't peak on Day 1, but they've let that die.

I don't like this energy.

Complaining about rollout is fine. But talking about illness triggers me for some reason.

Im not. I found this girl Raye some days ago and shes literally serving Pop Magic with her EP called Escapism. :jonnycat:

U should check it out, definitely going to become THE breakout star of 2023

I do think ACT II will even further her streaming power.

Taylor did the same thing, it worked well
