Pretty sure Kelly's breakthrough was 2002-2003. Yes I know Breakaway was her peak, but the momentum from her debut definitely helped. Miss Indepent specifically was all over the radio, even Low got a decent amount of airplay.

She's underrated amongst her peers, mainly it seems because she doesn't quite have the gay icon status like many of her peers (Barbra, Diana, Cher) but she was a MAJOR player for years. She even may have pioneered the "Good Girl Gone Bad" transition as well, as she essentially left the cookie cutter AC Baladeer aesthetic for a more sexy/provocative image in the early 80's.
