There is no "untouchable goddess" thing about Beyoncé imo. She merely knows her worth, has her boundaries, and is not willing to change just to achieve some level of commercial success or GP-approval. If the GP doesn't like that, it's because they must think she owes them something. But she's spent the majority of her 25 year career playing the game, promo-ing hard, travelling the world, filming-back-to-back, never stopping, doing interviews, and what did that achieve? Success, sure. And people STILL said they thought she was arrogant and unlikeable and unrelatable back then too.

Now she's in a spot where she either doesn't care about guaranteed success, or feel she needs it.

Yes, she's going FAR into the "NO PROMO" side for whatever reason, but if someone isn't going to like her because she doesn't seem like their friend, or isn't being "real" on social media or isn't trying to sell her albums or isn't appearing on tv shows, that's more on them than Bey.

She's making the best music of her career and if that is NOT ENOUGH for the GP to value her/her work, then what it comes down to is not appreciation of music, but a desire for her to be something they "need" her to be in order.

Actually love the variation in that audio mix, it makes the song sound more punctuated

Her case for SOTY.

That was cute. Glad to know her upload button still works.

I think this new Break My Soul video kinda of proves what she's trying to do this era... which is make it all about how the music makes people feel.

She hasn't done much as far as promo but the stuff she has done honours/thanks/compiles fans and the contributions people have made to celebrating the music.

This video underlines that concept very well. She's basically saying the music doesn't NEED visuals, it's about how it makes everyone FEEL. And that was outlined pretty much from the very start in the communications she wrote about the album.

And quite frankly, in delivering a FOURTH visual album...I can understand why she wants to break the mould a bit and use a lack of visuals as its own artistic statement, and then to provide them later, even if it is...much later lol.

I mean, she's an entertainer... and she fails to keep people entertained :michael:

Of course the music is the most important but it's show business we're talking about after all. Visuals, interactions, performances and interviews are important. Not because she can chart a few spots higher but because that brings and creates content for the fans and the GP to enjoy, discover her and most importantly have something to brighten their day on a long winter evening at home. Those are the things that help cement fanbases and make you wanna go re-listen a body of work.

Renaissance is amazing but I would personally enjoy it much more if there was SOMETHING attached to it. I'd kill for a cool visual or a performance. Of course at this stage of her career she decides what's important and she has the right to prioritise her family but you can't blame people for "needing her to something she's not". They just want to be entertained and so far we haven't had any new content since 29 July

Unrelated to promo, I think she quiet literally depicted herself as a goddess/diety throughout moments in 2016_2019. When it wasn't literal, she definitely gave off this aura of untouchable grandeur, decadence and poise.

I loved it as an expression/narrative in Lemonade, but less so in moments afterwards like Mood4Ever/Apeshit/Family affair.

I remember the exact moment my friend saw Apeshit and rolled her eyes because she was tired of the "image" and self indulgence...

Ultimately, it's her artistic expression and a valid thing to be drawn to/not. There's no right and wrong.

I like her playing with Fantasy, (particularly over generic wealth,) but I just wish she would inject a bit more edge and persona into it (Hold Up, DHYS). One of the reasons I was critical of the lifeless, void expression and body language of the Renaissance cover ( in spite of the horse being iconic)

Well sure, but many many popstars have used goddess/diety imagery, some in that same timespan and don't get called an untouchable goddess. I'd say the difference is maybe they did it more playfully than with a serious note, so I can see how people feel that way and maybe I don't think it's valid because I know her sombre energy like that of APESHIT and all the posing with dancers huddled around her is more her shifting from pure pop aesethetics to that more of an 'artistic' vibe which to some can feel arrogant BUT I still don't think that's her problem.

She's made her most fun record since B'Day and if someone can't find the entertainment in that without "relating" to her or being reminded of it or being sold it through other forms of media...then that's more a them problem, not a Beyoncé problem and if it IS, then it's not one she cares to fix.

People just draw conclusions all the time about Beyoncé based on what they think of her. It's really no different than blaming her for breaking up DC4, just this time it's a different form of "she thinks she's better than everyone else."

It’s also the way she’s portrayed in media and the way other celebrities, who have fans of their own, talk about her. Sheryl Lee Ralph won her first Emmy after a having a career that spans at least 4 decades and a major talking point when she did all her talk appearances afterwards was about Beyonce sending her flowers. Think back to The Lion King press run, every single voice actor did promotion except one…Beyonce.

Things like that definitely play into people’s perception of her thinking she’s a goddess or arrogant. They 100% aren’t pulling it out of thin air. We’re much more than just casual fans so our perspective on it is clouded, but if you take off the stan goggles or just listen in when she happens to be a topic of conversation there are some valid reasons people are put off by her.

I just don't think it's Beyoncé's fault if she sends an idol congratulatory flowers and the media takes that up because the person who received them kept talking about it. If somoene is going to judge her as arrogant for that, first of all, HOW, and second of all, that's still on them.

I don't think stan goggles have much to do with it. Yes, I might forgive far more than the average person as it relates to a conversion of attention devoted to her, but saying "she doesn't do much so I don't think about her/listen to her music" is far different than "she doesn't do much so I think she thinks she's better than everyone else".

Because also:

  • When Beyoncé was called arrogant, conniving, fame-hungry, and a spotlight hog because two members of DC4 left / was the lead-singer of a group, was people's perception of her correct?
  • When she references an iconic work or samples like everyone else in pop and then is called unoriginal or a copycat, are people's percecptions correct?
  • When BC Jean's song was given to Beyoncé without her knowing and without a Beyoncé writing credit and was called a thief, accused of stealing writing credits, were people's perception of her correct?
  • When Rihanna came up and endless comparisons of "who is more relatable" and "I don't like Beyoncé she seems so arrogant" yet still doing a million interviews and promo rounds and appearances as we wish her to do now to save her from those words, were people's perception of her correct?

I could go on to every lil thing the public has felt about her at a certain time (the Cuba visit, her relationship with Jay-Z, the judgements/perceptions of Blue, her relationship with Solange, the 'she's soooo overrated' topics, etc. etc.

If someone is unwilling to dig deeper, to get the actual information, or to think harder about WHY she might not be out there hustling to sell her album and appear like your bff, that's kind of on them. They may never see otherwise, but that's not Beyoncé's job to make people have sense.

i think some of these stans are not really in tune with the GP like they want to potray and are masking their own personal frustrations as projection of what they think the GP feels. the reality is..the GP is not waking up in angst over Beyonce visuals or lack of interviews or performances. for one...GP are people that aren't even paying attention closely like that anyway. that's never been the nature of GP audience. they see and hear Beyonce content in passing as it happens to come across their attention. that's how it's always been for every celebrity. so any other theory is less about true GP and more about stans complaining amongst themselves tbh.

I think you're right, and think we could find negative GP testimonials about every popstar relative how their choices and persona come across as whatever negative trait they associate to it. And I absolutely think stans feel entitled to more...that's kind of the nature of stanning, wanting, needing, hoping for more. If someone doesn't give the stans what they want, they act out, and we've seen it in every fanbase.

This argument that Beyoncé needs to be more relatable is soooo tired to me. She has stated so many times that she values her privacy and the music is and will always be the focus. If anyone sees her as goddess or pretentious because of that then it’s on them and it’s that simple. Everything has become so accessible and people feel like they are owed access. Beyoncé clearly is not interested in putting on an act for the sake of relatability. As swissman said she clearly knows her worth and that often times stirs something inside people who sometimes don’t know theirs.

That video is like 4 months late girlbye.

My rolling tray finally arrived, I forgot I even ordered it. Glad I didn't order the blanket

Exactly.

and we can't use Twitter or social media as a GP poll b/c that's where a lot of these talking points are coming from. when Beyonce is wishing ppl happy birthday & sending ppl flowers to either thank them and salute them on their achievements with personal notes. and all the celebs who tell their story of how nice & encouraging Beyonce was to them...all of that counts towards her public image too. There are plenty of celebs with bad public image and are known to be standoffish & unpleasant...Beyonce is not one of them.

I loved the video. I do think if it has been released earlier BMS could’ve possibly gone #1 in the UK but whatever

This 100%. Confidence and Arrogance can look the same depending on your level of insecurity. Unfortunately since Beyoncé doesn’t address much, other people are given the room to paint the picture to whatever they want her to be.

the video resurfaced the same feelings of when I first heard BMS...still the perfect lead & a powerful uplifting song

compilations like THAT is what you can expect from Beyonce in terms of general fan service outside of the fun concert interaction moments. also the handwritten letters & notes that she publishes which she did 2 of for this era. she's never going to be the celebrity replying to tweets or going on IG live. take it or leave it. fans put a lot of effort into creating content for these songs so it is wonderful that she acknowledged them.

I didn’t say it was her fault, what I said was it helps to paint the perception of her being deified.

Stan goggles have a lot to do with it imo. I was in the thread of The Lion King premiere and I remember the comments from members of this base watching that red carpet live stream and her being the only one from the film to not appear but just take pictures on the red carpet. They were completely turned off and dragged her but that lasted maybe a day.

Regarding this part of your post:

but saying "she doesn't do much so I don't think about her/listen to her music" is far different than "she doesn't do much so I think she thinks she's better than everyone else".

Her not being in any kind of content like this and completely not engaging with the rest of the cast helps to push that narrative. Her being the only cast member to not promote it at all but be the topic of most all the casts interviews helps that narrative.

I’m specifically using The Lion King as an example because it’s not Beyonce exclusive like an album and the audience was mostly GP or built in TLK fans…and the topic of her not promoting was discussed in and outside of this base.

Parkwood is definitely starting to feel the pressure because the frustration has boiled over to their socials now. It was cute, but you can tell the patience of fans is wearing thin.

I don't think there's much they can do though because I'm pretty sure they signed with a major streaming service to premiere the visuals and they're sort of stuck to that commitment. It's not like they can just drop something on YT :skull:

Until then they may do something to feed the kids here and there but they'll have to tread lightly because they're on the chopping block.

I wonder if they're aware that transparency might help. Like a release date or even some form of interaction on Beyoncé's part. It's not just about the visuals, it's the complete silence from her team. I know they're planning a other surprise, but surprises stop mattering when that's been the game plan since 2013 :rip:
