Are they even fan-voted though? Bc how in the world did Taylor win VOTY but missed out on Best Artist over Madonna who has a less rapid fanbase online? Or why do we not see a kpop sweep every year since that fanbase is known for their obsessive ways?

Yes, you can vote for most main categories (except the technical ones) on their website and IG i think. But it is so stupid because then they just give it to whoever shows up. They should get rid of the fan voted nature.

I don't know it has lost his prestige and relevance but it's still nice to see our faves perform and win

they somehow still have taylor on it, so they are not that "irrelevant" anymore, if they can still get the biggest artist in the world to attend.

they will keep doing more of the same (pretending awards are fan-voted to drive social media engagement, inviting mostly c-listers and creating an award to get one (1) a-lister to attend) until it starts losing them money, upon which it will be cancelled

it's a shell of its former self (though being from the uk it was never relevant to me - the only memorable moment in my lifetime is miley in 2013) but corporate suits don't care. as long as it's profitable they will keep doing the bare minimum

I just saw a video about the latest VOTY winners.

They deserve to flop.

The mainstream pop landscape as a whole seems boring imo. So, I'm not sure how you revamp when the artists who themselves are supposed to be the subject matter of the show are mostly uninteresting.

Without celebrity culture or special performances by actual talented artists there's no point imo

I was very shocked at the lineup where are all the pop girls .. (and relevant artists?)

it's not like nobody released any music, miley just released her album, tyla could've performed, zara/pink could've performed, flo just released, katseye, adela, madison beer, cardi b. any kpop girl group would've been cute too, karol g, shakira, charli xcx. not even asking for ariana or taylor given the circumstances.

and ella had the biggest song this year, why did she skip the event

There is no need for any awards for music at this time and age other than the Grammys.

All those VMAs, AMAs, and PCAs should be ended, they are just PR events.

How can you have a successful Video Music Award without successful (English) music videos anymore? Maybe it can be a thing in markets that still value music videos.

To be honest, I think it's been dead (or at least not taken seriously) since the mid-2000s. Looking at the years from 2005 onward, the only times it actually got any real attention were the years when Gaga showed up. And honestly, it's not surprising at all - if I were the average American, I'd probably tune in just for Madonna's performance and then switch back to watching the ads. This new generation of celebrities just lacks charisma and talent, and they're genuinely boring to watch. With people like that, award shows like these really have no place anymore

Sunday night, only 2h long, fun and stupid entertainment. It's not that deep (unless you want it to be).

Just stop caring about the awards, at this point you should know how they work.

It isn't very accessible in the US for their target audience. They need to figure out a way to make a Youtube livestream profitable or something because most people just watch the highlights on Twitter the next day and move on.
