There’s no denying Dua Lipa (31) had a great year. But the question is: have we already seen the absolute peak of her career? Will she maintain success or is this the beginning of the end of her legacy?

I think she's the actual Katy of this era. Absolutely enormous numbers for a couple of eras, but very limited musicality that can only take her so far. She's not a strong vocalist, not a strong writer

  • People do much on this forum. Comparing her to Katy / a Katy esque career as if that is some type of massive drag yet Katy is in the top 15 artists on Spotify . Dua and Katy despite you all shading

Training Season is smashing hard rn and she's going to have 2 one billion streamed songs from her flop era

I think every body likes at least a few of her songs. Shes a little bit like Rihanna in that way. If she releases a catchy song here and there people will be here for her, I think.

I have a feeling that she needs at least 2 total flop albums in a row to be ignored by the GP and Pop gays. I bet she will benefit a lot once people start to have nostalgic feelings for mid 2010s pop and she was basically the biggest pop star of the 2020s so far, right?

I think she's the actual Katy of this era. Absolutely enormous numbers for a couple of eras, but very limited musicality that can only take her so far. She's not a strong vocalist, not a strong writer, she's maintained the same, trend-dependent sound. I think that her time is probably up unless she works with an innovative producer who can bring something new to the table.

No way she'll top FN both commercially and critically.

She's past her prime with that era.

I can see her being able to book arenas for the rest of her life. North America, South America, and Europe all seem to love her (not sure how she's doing outside these territories) she's not really a divisive figure, and I think she can keep up her carefree branding. People did a bit much over an underperforming album.

Dua and Katy despite you all shading them had some of the most impactful music eras of the century and they could retire or flop for the rest of their life and still have achieved what most musicians dream of. confused

Has she really been dependent on trends though? Obviously her music has always been super commercial and palatable, but her debut came in the middle of the tropical pop and trap trend and she never really followed that (besides New Rules having trop-pop influences).

With Future Nostalgia, she was a huge part of ushering in the 80's/dance pop trend rather than following it. And then Radical Optimism also being disco influenced, but also having elements of psychedelic-pop and europop wasn't really what was trendy at the time either.

She's also got a pretty slim discography, only three albums in a decade with a handful of collabs and droplets. I'm not sure she even releases enough music to be chasing trends.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, but I do think they will have similar trajectories

I don't think she's ever gonna top Future Nostalgia in terms of quality or success but she can definitely rebound from Radical Optimism's undeperformance

and now Tame Impala smashing with the GP, shes a trend setter... not follower! clap3 gayalipacat3

I do think there is a lot riding on this next era though... I just hope she puts more care and effort into it than the RO era...

We'll see, truly depends on what she releases and whether the gp jumps on it.

I doubt anyone in 2024 thought TS would be rising like this in 2026.

I think she'll continue to do well! If she releases an amazing single this fall, she can maybe continue the Training Season hype. Perhaps a music video with her husband? That would surely go viral since he's the outcome of the Training Season trend

Probably and there's nothing wrong with that. Future Nostalgia is a very high high to top.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, she needs to work with James Murphy

Her "enormous numbers" are merely a fabrication. Her debut album tanked until she hopped on all those dj collabs after new rules which were all later added to the album on streaming, which is where its numbers come from.

She did the same with fN.

This, with the exception that her numbers are not as big as Katy's. Also considerably more fabricated than Katy's, which makes her all the less impressive.

Like others said I don't think it's possible to reach the heights of her first two albums but she can definitely outperform RO.

Well, that shouldn't be hard.

People comparing her to Katy as if Katy was doing stadium residencies in her home country and is a universally beloved celebrity rip

Commercially she probably peaked with Future Nostalgia but that era is one of the biggest of the century so I don't see that as an issue. Dua's gonna be a cultural mainstay for years to come. Training Season is charting again because she got married and people are making fan edits. She could get booked as the headliner at every major music festival in the world, she's won several Grammy's. The ceiling has likely been hit but the roof is higher than many of her peers and contemporaries.

You can't make this argument credibly and then turn around and claim DWAS (like many monsters do) is the biggest song of all time. You could go on the street and play dont start now for practically anybody and they'd know the song. That isn't fake success, that's a legacy.

Teenage Dream is the biggest era by either artist

Quality wise, it’ll be hard to top Houdini but commercially she’s had massive smash hits from every era and nothing would indicate that changing anytime soon
