It kinda feels like the era of MPGs is over in terms of overall ubiquity.

Surely, we could name the three most successful, but even then, there isn't that same all out pop majesty that we had in the days of Britney, Gaga, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Katy, etc.

Perhaps it's just that pop music has changed, but I think it's less a question of taste or aesthetic and more that the streaming era has flattened pop culture, made cult heroes of some but allowed the masses to ignore a great many others. Today, it's very easy to have never heard a multi-week #1 hit. In 2010, that was far less likely when music videos were cultural events, when radio was used more, MTV existed, and we didn't have social media accounts all competing for cultural attention, and in the process shortening attention spans.

And that's why the biggest "new girls" like Billie, Olivia or Tate don't feel at all at the same level of those mentioned above.

Everyone treating Taylor/Bey/Gaga as a "veteran" trinity but none of the new girls are outdoing them in touring, cultural influence, or really anything outside of charts and streams so it's still those three regardless

It's difficult because it feels like, these days, commercial performance and cultural relevance aren't entirely inextricably tied together. I could see you putting any of Taylor, Billie, Beyoncé, Gaga, Ariana, and even Sabrina in a "trinity" of sorts but any list missing any of them really feels like it's missing someone. And then of course there are other commercial juggernauts like Sza, potentially Olivia with a little bit of a rebound from Guts - and what if Rihanna comes back and stomps? What if Adele's next record is bigger than 30, which was already big? And I'm certain I'm forgetting someone too. It's not easy to pin down a specific slate. The old school "trinity" concept originating from like, early social media stan culture wasn't even about specifically commercial or cultural pull anyway, but I do feel like the Gaga, Beyoncé, Britney combo really felt like it has something compelling in its composition that I struggle to put together with any single set of the current pop girls. Maybe that's why I gravitate toward two of them still in my top selections. Interesting, though, that Beyoncé still feels like an essential component when she's a veteran artist of nearly three decades now, that's a real testament to her longevity.

Based on these factors it's undoubtedly Taylor, Beyoncé, and Gaga. They are still able to secure hit singles and albums, hold cultural cachet, are double digit Grammy winners, demonstrated immense touring power, along with having built huge fanbases along the way and a clear influence on the next generation of artists.

Then there's obviously Billie, Ariana, Sabrina, Olivia, SZA etc. but they have quite a few ways to go before they tick all the boxes.

In my "youth" (my late teens/early 20s) it was Britney, Gaga, Beyonce and by god was it FLAWLESS

Now it's Taylor, Bey, Gaga - also flawless
