My reading varies year by year, sometimes I'll read only a handful of books in a year, someone's I read 20-30. I'm trying to reduce my screen time this year so I expect to go though a lot of books this year.

I love Stephen King and Agatha Christie and Khaled Hosseini (idk if he writes anymore) and used to be a **** for Rick Riordan. Idk who else rn I'm baked and reading Different Seasons, APT Pupil by Stephen King. A few pages in and we have an old crusty Nazi. This main character kid is annoying as **** and has no survival instinct because he saw this mildewed old nazi and went in his nasty house.

I have a lot of knowledge interests, like during history class I would always be ahead, and nowadays it's me reading articles or listening to politics podcasts, but I don't read for pleasure, just for education. I would like to incorporate actual book reading into my life, not audio books or fanfic but actual classic books

I do! Quite avidly. I would prefer to sit in the evenings reading a book with some music on in the background than watch TV, I find it relaxing. And I read most weeknights before bed unless I'm really shattered so I get through quite a lot.

I do. I hadn't done so in a while since I got a full time job but now I want to commit to it since I finally got the rhythm of my daily routine. I bought a bunch of books recently and my goal is to read 30 this year. I'm almost done with The Art of War.

I've been working to get back in the habit. I managed 23.5 books last year, which was half a book short of my goal—24 would have been as many books as I'd read in the previous 4 years combined.

It's a bit of a struggle because I mostly like reading gay things but so much of it is either trauma/death, about teenagers, or bad-to-mid romances usually written by women.

But my intention is to get more into classic literature. Between the declining publishing standards, Hallmarkification of the bookshelf, and AI-pocalypse, you can only really trust the old stuff to be some level of good and authentically written by a person.

Since I started college (got my masters, now in PhD) my reading habit kinda died because I had to read so much stuff for school that in my free time I just wanted mindless screen fun like tv or video games. I read a bunch of stuff already, just not fiction books.

I don't think it's fair to compare number of books though. A lot of girls in tiktok will brag about reading idk how many books in a year and they're either skimming through it or they're short and basically *****graphy

I agree with this a lot. Some books require you to sit with them for a while and others can be easier to read. I think this whole "I am gonna read X number of books this month/year" mentality is doing a disservice to actual reading because reading (a good book) often requires reflection. And just because you've read X number of books doesn't mean that you actually understood them or they are worthy of reading. There's a lot of trash books out there.

finally got back into it last year

whenever i'd try to get back into reading in the past I would attempt one of the Stephen King books I had but they were all just so boring

right now i'm loving Agatha Christie, H. G. Wells and especially Olaf Stapledon whose work is actually so insanely creative and ahead of its time

The way I'm kinda Lea Michele because I can only manage to read about 10-12 books in a year and I really don't know how people read upwards of 50 books. I also have reached an age where if I'm not enjoying a book at all I have to dnf it cause I'd rather not waste my time reading garbage.

I read a TON in 2024 and 2025, but 2026 has sucked so much ass so far with how much tension there's been with my roommate so I've not really had much energy to hunker down and focus on the book I've been in the middle of. I want to finish it by the end of the month though so that I can finally start Ulysses by James Joyce! friend me y'all btw I'm always looking for friends on there
