Taylor is the biggest, most famous artist on the planet and has been for many years now.

Whitney never was.

In 1993, Whitney had the biggest female album and single of all time. Plus, she achieved multiple 1 million sales weeks, without having to spam 184628291 variants of an album.

This is a reflection of the release period. Stray Kids have a 4.6M+ first week sales album and Seventeen have a 5.091M+ first week sales album. The constant tour bragging is also getting so tired. Every female artist that was the most popular of her time held that record at some point, it's literally just a reflection of digitalization and globalization

AOTY doesn't really mean anything for a peak either, traditionally speaking. Those awards used to either be bought or were decided by near-dead white straight men. The reality is that the mass consumer usually did not align with what ever the committee's opinion was, and they used to be proud of this fact. To consider Taylor Swift, the ultimate Americana pop singer (not a compliment), to have some sort of advantage over Whitney Houston of all people through this is laughably absurd
