It was never a bad song to begin with, especially for its purpose of being the soundtrack of a teen dark comedy show, same argument of 'Runway' as soundtrack of a fashion comedy movie or 'Hold my Hand' for 'Top Gun', all these songs were fitting the kind of project they were attached to.

'Hold My Hand' by the way is often used here in my country in tv shows and their relative promos, also recently it has been used for the promo of a fall tv show.
