#1 rule of luxury brands is artificial scarcity and that's how she has been positioning herself for a while now - as a luxury brand.

This way of thinking is ruining her legacy matty

You don't sell out stadiums over and over in the same places (US & Europe) if your latest performances and concerts are just out there for anyone to watch. People need to be clamoring to see her live, because that's the only way to see her perform and people will run and pay inflated prices just to watch her.

MJ and Madonna were out here selling videocassettes and laserdiscs with their videographies and concerts on them back in the Jurassic period and it didn't stop them from being and staying the biggest acts of all time. Hint: it helped. Nor does being all over YouTube and Spotify and TikTok ruin the concert gross of Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars, ****ing Karol G, The Weekday, blondie ironing board, etc.

What defines a luxury good is quality first and foremost, not scarcity. Everyone (including the present-day luxury sector) seems to have forgotten that. Scarcity is games, quality is not. It's definite and factual and not up for debate. Quality is nobility, noble sources, noble origins, pride in what talented, skilled humans can make and do. So we know that by this definition Bey's art is quality, she's got that covered, she's good. Trying to drive up its value like it's a real estate development is a losing game. 1) It's not working. Maybe she'll see a nice payday from it eventually but at what cost? 2) It cheapens any higher intention the art might have. If it's always only about a premium (for her) then who can believe it was ever intended to serve any other purpose in the world? We'd like to believe she wants to put her stuff out because she has something to say and wants it to reach people and do good and bring joy and enlightenment, not because she wants to play 4D chess with her tax returns in 2030.

she is still an amazing performer. Those 2 things go and she'll have 2 choices: either change her attitude or prepare to sell out out theaters.

what's even the point of her being the greatest performer oat when we barely get to see her perform nowadays, and the old performances are increasingly harder to find…

soon we'll have nothing left but brand commercials and the occasional merch dropsuburban

why is it whenever I come in here I see some taylor clip and "id rather beyonce not do anything than do this!" yes we know beyonce outsings her, why are our options beyonce does nothing or she magically turns into taylor swift..?

btw the CCT sold MUCH slower than RWT and the economy is even worse, if she doesnt want to perform to an anti tour sized crowd shes going to have to be a little more engaging (with a setlist that actually incorporates her hits)

Us when Bey proclaims that she loves us deep.

Honestly, at this point Bey is doing anti-fanservice or fan-disservice. Thats what it is.

I feel like people have been thinking/discussing the aftermath of Beyoncé's exclusivity and I also had some thoughts for a long time as an intentional fan. (It's a long post and feel free to ignore.)

Everyone falls victim to time. Mariah is the Christmas song lady. Gen Z/A literally said "I didn't know a Madonna song until Deadpool vs. Wolverine." (I have come to accept it. Having your 1 song or even just your name remembered for decades is the hardest thing.)
Yet Beyoncé seems to be actively making that process happen faster. She seems to move like Prince's exclusivity model and that has its downsides.

The larger part of GP doesn't care about acclaim. They care about hits. (Also evidenced by Beyoncé's hits medley being added during the CC tour and becoming one of the most hyped part of the show.)
The larger part of GP doesn't care enough to go out there way to look up past performances. They want it to go viral and appear on their algorithm. Beyoncé taking down/not uploading live performances really doesn't help.

Also, to the larger (non-english speaking) international GP, it's hard to understand the acclaim and message of an all-english, black woman's pov songs. That's already an unfair barrier of language/culture against Beyoncé's music post 4/ST. Yet at the same time, she hasn't performed or even promoted at a non-US/European country in like 15 years. Other pop girl stans exaggerate "Beyoncé's not known worldwide" but it's true that at least her international longevity is being affected right now.

I can tell you that majority of my younger or international friends/coworkers/family members could not name a Prince song if it wasn't for his estate approving it to appear on Stranger Things.
To me and you, that's just a personal anecdote and that they are super uncultured. But that's the reality of Prince's legacy right now to a lot of (younger and international) people. No matter how much we say "**** them for not being able to understand good quality music. Get off your ass and research."

Beyoncé's name/legacy won't ever be forgotten. But acclaimed music/performance can't have power if the artist is purposefully barring people from engaging with it. Gen Z/A and international crowd needs to see content for them to become fans and we really need them onboard if we want to keep this "#1 album/single/stadium tour/acclaimed music" train running.

And that's on what? On period.

When you become as big and as adored as Bey is, I understand that things get to your head eventually. But like you just said: Nothing is forever, legacy is not guaranteed. It's so very true what you say about Prince, and you can see the same thing with Janet, who is simply unknown to GenZ/Alpha. It's the 40year olds that have some sort of memory of Janet, but those aged 30 and less couldn't name a song even if they tried.
Legacy is NEVER set in stone, especially when you are a recluse like Bey is.

There's a reason luxury brands are completely bombing atm (inflation hello) - in the age of social media, we don't want to see people flaunt wealth like that. So Bey's "tactic" is literally damaging her longterm game.

I went and saw Death Becomes Her on Broadway the other night and Michelle looked and sounded great. I'm so glad I got the chance to see her do her thing and do it well after all these years.

I'd sell my firstborn if she invented her own patreon esque website to pay for content. If you're going to be a capitalist be an interesting one! Give me K4NTY Channel, a place to stream your concerts, visuals, performances, interviews, behind the scenes. Mimi is a hag but she always feeds her fans and actually acts like she loves her work. Idgaf about streams and legacy she made it clear but b!ch give me something as a FAN who has rode for you all these years.

You know her: Shed have a glorious launch, hopes would rise to the highest ceilings, and after the first initial month, crickets. She NEVER has any plans left post launch, thats why all the projects post 4 burn out so quickly.

Its just launch, nothing, tour, nothing.

If she was given a chance to reach there with ease and afford the deal, she'd probably buy planet mars and live there with her fam.

Tbh I don't know if this is even a soft launch or tease more than it is trying to drive up engagement on the post to get a further reach. rip
