Personally I think the song is great, but it does feel like the 80s/disco-pop of the early 2020's has fled the scene a bit for popular music.

 

songs like Doja's own Say So, blinding lights, levitating all capture that covid-era sound so well, and I feel like it's not as hot right now. 
 

I also feel like more of these newer acts put themselves in a risky spot by taking big breaks inbetween projects, two years isn't tooo long, but I do feel like Sabrina did a great job of striking while her momentum was high, following up the short and sweet era within months, and maybe doja shouldve followed the success of Agora Hills and Paint the town red the summer or fall of last year 

I LOVE this song, and I'm not even a stan or fan like that.

I think there's something wrong right with me, I can't stop listening to it or watching the music video

To be fair the song is great but this sound is a NO for the US public 

It needs to go viral on Tiktok, it's always been like this with her

I love it but Idk maybe it's a bit too noisy for the GP. Plus maybe Doja's star is just fading a bit. This is her 4th mainstream era and Scarlet was already a decline despite having multiple hits not every pop girl lasts more than a few eras. 

She should have performed a new song at the VMAs. It's clear this song isn't going to catch on as everyone pointed out the long teasing actually kills the song momentum & this isn't lead material.

It's a great song and she's delving way deeper into the 80s sound than other artists. I think a lot of people weren't prepared for that level of 80s inspiration. The other 80s throwback songs have some modern elements to them, but JT is completely 80s through and through. 
 

Plus, during the Scarlet era, her efforts to shed her pop image for a hip-hop image seemed to rub people the wrong way. Especially to some of her pop fans that may have thought she was abandoning pop for good. Maybe the checked out and haven't yet realized she's doing pop again.

 

I hope it picks up because it's a great song (and video too).

I love the song but I agree with other posters that the 80s sound is not in the mainstream anymore

No TikTok trend (4 older songs trended instead 😭), and they failed to have great playlisting on Spotify upon release.  They gambled by putting too much emphasis on Apple.  Why? Idk…because it then declined there too.  
 

I mean, the song didn't fall that far 2nd week on H100 (thanks radio).  So you never know…her old songs have been known to get revived by TT.

Because she's a rapper first and a singer second. People love her rap songs that mesh together catchy R&B and pop melodies. This whole 80s shtick is beyond played out but at least when some artists do it there's still something sort of "modern" about it (Taste is a good example of this). If done wrong it's just dated upon arrival which is exactly how Jealous Type sounds to me. The era so far feels very cosplay

The song is bad. These 80s attempts lack the 80s song structure or mixing even. This sounds like a Prince song formulated for Target. There's no liveliness, that fun attitude of 80s pop records are missing from all these nostalgic pastiche attempts lately.

 

I don't think that's why it's not catching on yet, tho. Also, saying she doesn't have a fan base when she tours arenas is dumb.

lol…based on the snippets, I actually wouldn't be surprised.  Sounds like they still have a lot of single options.  
 

But PTTR was always the commercial lead.  So it's slightly different situation here unfortunately.  

The world is so tired of the disco/funk/boogie/80s retro sound that peaked in 2021. It was a mistake to return to that trend.
