Jealous Type: What went wrong?

Featured Replies

The GP only uses awful music now with minimal exceptions

That and I think the social ennui we're facing atm doesn't lend itself to songs like this

  • She waited way too damn long. Teasing the song so early was a big mistake. She had virtually no competition from May-July and sat on the song wayyyy too long. She's gotten overshadowed by several rele

  • Many others have pointed it out as well, but I've said since before the song dropped that people are tired of this throwback 80's soundscape. It's not fun anymore

  • ATRL praised it    but still a big bop

The fact this song went Top 5 on iTunes,  top 10 on Shazam, +32 on Spotify US and +51 on Global…just kinda underscores what I said earlier…

Some GP don't even know it's out…😭 Especially with no TT trend.

Doubt VMA impact will be long lasting, but if people wasn't feeling it…VMAs wouldn't have even done that.

SN: Her Instagram being age restricted when launching her new era…not ideal either :skull:

She needs modern pop songs with rapping verses like Paint the town red and agora hills

"Acts of Service" and "Gorgeous" giving Agora Hill 2.0 and 3.0…so it's coming lol.

It was instant for me but after the initial excitement wore off I did not go back to it as much as I thought I would.

The mixing is terrible and while the chorus is catchy, it got tiring pretty fast for me.

I've been waiting so long to say this but the song just doesn't sound good in the car?? idk how to describe it, the bass is lacking and it always sounds flat, it's odd to me.

I love the direction, love the song, love the video, but yeah idk? I know she got more up her sleeves.

also lbr, Jack Antanoff took/trying to take down another one of our MPGs, it's no coincidence.

the release is a mess , should be releaed in May or June at latest.

and she doesnt know how to build a fanbase which is a shame cause her livestream is building fanbase material but she can not subtain it. And seem like she is not that hungry to become bigger and just say whatever she wants which can turn people off.

People suddenly saying it's bad because it's underperforming :rip: give it up, the song is great

Everyone needs to chill and take their cocaine or crystal meth. The album isn't even out yet. She just barely performed it a couple of weeks after it came out. Why have we become so conditioned to think that a song is a flop if it doesn't debut high and resonate right away? People might still be discovering it and checking it out. It could still go viral and click and be a hit.

My main problem with the song is that there's not enough rapping going on, whoever's decision it was to make her rap verse like 13 seconds long needs to get chopped. majority of her appeal come from her rap verses (i.e. Streets, Rules, Tia Tamera) and JT's felt like it was squeezed in for the sake of it + there were no good bars or humour to tie it all together so it was kinda a chop. On top of that, the mixing makes it hard to understand what she's saying for most of the song and I fear we only have Jack to blame for that. :deadbanana4:

The VMAs performance felt very lazy. It felt like she was waiting on the call if she's booked for the main show & they told her two days before giving her last min presentation.

Even the wig on her head during the show was giving party city like she ran to the store quickly asking for the cheapest thing she can put on your head :heart2:

Jack Antonoff's stuff is getting boring

plus i can't understand what she's saying for most of the song and it doesn't have a strong enough melody to be catchy

Attention was a flop, so I assume she has something else for the next single.

Cards is coming to save the era.

The song feels extremely late and it's not strong enough to make up for it.

The song is great but it never sounded like a smash to me. Someone said in the single thread that it leans too much to pastiche and it was spot-on. But I'm bopping and a lot of us are bopping and I think that's good enough. Not every song has to be a smash.

New jack swing sounds to 80s for the gp.

There's a lot of new Jack swing songs from the 90s and Y2K, she should've leaned more into the britney era of new jack swing instead of the 80s.

I feel like a lot of people abandoned her during scarlet

vma performance had low budget it was like she was asked at the last minute

I love the song and am here for this dance 80s vibe. Can't wait for the album.

I mean it's a cute song but it's not very strong + it sounds like tons of songs from the 80s.

The song is too on the nose for me. Say So ( which I also don't care for) sounded fresh and still sounds fresh compared to Jealous Type. JT sounds like it's trying to recreate SS success, but SS was a moment. It's not just about having a good song, but it being iconic in that time. Even if Sabrina Carpenter was to release an Expresso 2.0 for her next album, it may not favor well.

Jealous type was Type dangerous for being released as a single
