People suddenly saying it's bad because it's underperforming :rip: give it up, the song is great

Right? The way ATRL was creaming itself when it was first released. Its like do yall not know how to form your own opinions about songs?

  • She waited way too damn long. Teasing the song so early was a big mistake. She had virtually no competition from May-July and sat on the song wayyyy too long. She's gotten overshadowed by several rele

  • Many others have pointed it out as well, but I've said since before the song dropped that people are tired of this throwback 80's soundscape. It's not fun anymore

  • ATRL praised it    but still a big bop

It's pretty safe, while decent. I think it's just a music climate thing. Like the charts are a joke, so what do we expect?

I really love every song in planet her especially kiss me more it's serving instantly summer chill vibes

and scarlet has pttr and some cute bops shutcho/agora hills/...

80s-inspired disco jealous type is fine but you don't wannna repeat much and she teased this song like 3 months ago

however still looking forward to her new album VIE

I mean the song is just kind of there. It's not bad at all, and I don't mind listening to it when it comes on, but I'd never seek it out myself like I would for some of her other songs.

The song is fine but this seems like a regression for Doja. She already did nostalgia-fused-pop years ago

It's catchy but too generic, too forgettable, personalityless etc. Anyone could have made that song.

I just think the 80s pastiche trend is tired and the GP is well past it

I dont remember if i commented already here but:

1. Doja cat is a rihanna type of figure but she went too harsh-mean to her loyal fanbase
2. The MAGA expose-Chats-Incel ruined her reputation with a lot of popfans. In the past it was easier to evade today. Today people are very sensitive about that
3. The 80s thing its been done so so many times. Main reason.
4. That rap era downgraded her power
5. Jack antonoff

If you want me to be honest i dont know if a 80s influenced album was the best idea. Let see if the album is good enough
If Gaga was able to pull a 80s album even when the trend was dated............. I think Doja could have something good.
This is new territory for her. So its an evolution

I feel like she shines with r&B pop songs and music that is like very exotic and hot but lets just test this era.

If Doja released Sports Car she would've slayed it so hard. :jonny5:

The 80s thing is tired at this point. She should have come back with an album full of Agora Hills, that's her lane she shines most in.

Feels forced - she really has no artistic inspiration or integrity anymore. Instead of chasing old trends she needed to hit it out of the park. She was always known for pushing boundaries.

Katy doesn't belong in the category as the others, she still carries significant GP support - see The Lifetimes Tour and Smile era streams.

@Each Tearspot the lie, oh wait there isn't one :lmao:

The song is good. I just feel she alienated a lot of people in her "hater" era.

The song is good, but it's missing something. The chorus is the best part but the verses and the rap part aren't as catchy.. i feel like it's missing what made her unique/different.. it just sounds like an 80s song but it doesn't feel like doja, it's not as original as "need to know" or "agora hills" or "kiss me more", especially the rap which is just there, it lacks personality. I think her fanbase wasn't big to begin with so it's not like she lost her audience after the scarlet era.. and jealous type is her biggest debut on spotify with minimal playlisting, so she still has an audience that listens to her music. The problem is the GP barely knows about it, it it doesn't go viral on tiktok unfortunately it will remain a flop (like every big song nowadays it needs to go viral)

The song's production is way better than the melody and lyric. This could've been an absolute banger if the right people wrote to this beat. But it's not very memorable, and reminds me of a random album track from a 1 album/era 80's wonder — definitely not a track intended to be a single.

I usually love her pop leaning stuff, but this is kind of a miss for me. The video is killer, so at least it has that going for it. But the audio itself is really…. Blah

Its not good enough to be a hit while the 80s trend is over. It bad to be during the 80s peak, now only when its THE 80s song is that its going to smash, cuz the trend is behind us.

There is nothing wrong with the song at all. It took me a few listens for it to really catch on, but when it did, it fits perfectly. I think a few months of separation when she begins to tour will help it be reappraised in the same way Disease feels much more esoteric and interesting juxtaposed against the rest of Mayhem versus when it was the only new offering.

I think it's maybe not doing well commercially because this specific version of 80s that Doja is homaging is not really as trendy as her team or label forecasted. Sabrina dropping concurrently is an interesting comparison because her incorporation seems more subdued in a modern production style whereas Doja's era is giving a bit too uninspired and costumey even though the music, visuals and performances have been great, it just doesn't feel organic (ala Plastic Hearts maybe).

It's TOO 80s. Gorgeous might still have an opportunity to smash since it blends modern sounds and 80s beats pretty well based on that snippet (so far)

She's released it a crowded time. Too many artists releasing atm.
