oh!

these daily streams whewww she defo needs a hail mary that something takes off (that isn't an old song dd) atp. that's the thing about good music, though; I think the audience just needs to find it (eventually) mandown

I would love have a proper Vie Deluxe announcement with the release date/pre-save tomorrow on Valentine's Day alexz2

this being 2025 AOTY contender but the gp is paying it dust... i'm sick

one more time, make it up, stranger, cards, and silly! fun! all deserve a MOMENT

I'm shocked at how badly this performed. It's a masterpiece it's like nobody tune in. Releasing in the middle of Cardi & Tayler was a bad move.

RCA is not even trying to savage the era. Ahhh men & Strangers could have saved the era. Send something to radio rip

I always thought Doja was one of the main girls.

However her mindset of a one woman show might be her downfall.

No features, besides SZA.

Not needing nobody, no dancers, no fans.

I think the main reason for the underperformance is that I don't get the sense Doja or the label / her team care that much about the performance of this album, and probably are hoping her reputation for being a good performer and her past hits sell the tour. The planning for the album rollout was random and seemed poorly planned, and then it doesn't seem like they did much if anything post-album release apart from music videos.

Yeah seeing the Cardi B show with dancers, full-set, and everything looks very fun.

She missed an opportunity in my opinion.

I think it actually makes me respect her way more. You'd think touring right off the back of your floppiest album solo dolo would be intimidating and mission impossible for a lot of artists who want to hide behind a crew of dancers and flashy set designs but she commands the stage by herself effortlessly. I honestly don't think I've seen one justifiable negative comment when it comes to her as a performer either, which says a lot about her drive as an artist and an entertainer. She's ballsy for sure I'll give her that lol.

I don't know why so many of you are shocked this tanked tbh. The gp moved on from the 80s sound back in 2022 rip

i find it funny that every time this thread gets bumped its just think pieces about the performance of the album as theres literally nothing else going on apart from the tour lol (which i'm victim to as well)

i would love to see her work with a new team though, my biggest criticism of this era is that the tour especially is a bit of a redundant rehash of the EU scarlet tour, repackaged with 80's visuals and styling. what sets her apart from her peers is her performance ability and she needs to hone into that more in new and creative ways.

i think her team have really struggled with positioning her this era and we've seen the effect of that in real time. hoping the next era either strips it back down to the basics and grabs the essence of what people love about doja and secure her more hits, OR she goes down a more artsy left field route that would probably alienate her commercially but give her more universal respect and acclaim (which is best for her in the long term)

either way i'm seated.

I wonder if she'll adopt the pendulum swing mentality Charli has and go for the latter. I hope she does tbh. It would make sense if her next album (and presumably last on her contract) would end up becoming her BRAT since Vie very much matches up to CRASH as an era in terms of its "let's try being a popstar again" ethos and underperforming regardless. Praying she outsources her marketing and creative teams next time though. Her styling is usually pretty consistent but she's in desperate need of people with an eye when it comes to her visual content, photoshoots, album covers, etc. That's the funny thing about her, though, as she clearly has the connections with reputable industry professionals (i.e. Dave Meyers, Hannah Lux Davis, David LaChapelle, etc.) but her artistic identity feels more underground than the (boring) mainstream sheen everything we get from her nowadays has, excluding Scarlet ofc. Maybe that's partly why Vie simply didn't connect? Kinda need her to get weird again and shake the table idk!

Exactly this and it's very possible. I think in general the industry will start valuing the pendulum swing mentality, thanks to Charli, and I think we'll see artists take more risks, especially as labels are experiencing a shift where playing safe is not working anymore. It's clear audiences are here for fresh ideas after being plagued with years of throwback trends - and this was the core reason of Vie's underperformance, regardless of quality, because the quality was clearly there and she delivered some of her best music to date. A full 80's era was always going to feel a little pastiche, and considering it was done 3/4 years after the 80's revival was a little silly. Combined with the absolute mess that the era's launch was.

The "lets try being a popstar again" was also a misstep on managements behalf. They need to stop trying to put Doja in boxes and categories to make her marketable. When the lines are blurred, her artistic identity shines the most. She's too far in her career now for that to matter in the slightest, people will tune into her regardless. Whether it sticks or not, is a different topic. I hope they take this into account and stop trend chasing, and take a forward thinking approach going forward.

Totally agree on the visual side of things too. Her versatility and ability to shapeshift visual identities and provide a consistent era is her strong suit as she herself always fully commits, but at the same time it still feels so under utilised when it comes to the packaging of the era (e.g. artwork etc). Which again, feels more like the labels issue, rather than an issue from her herself. To truly sell an era and sell it well, things need to be consistent from the ground up, eras like BRAT and FN spring to mind and are examples of labels getting it completely right. I have a feeling RCA don't put much effort in planning months prior to album launches, or maybe the management… who knows?

Anyway I can talk hours about this, Doja's career is truly unique compared to some of the other MPG's we have today, and I genuinely believe that will work in her favour, but her career is in a truly pivotal position whatever the next move is.

Been Like This is ranked #4 on her Spotify Daily List. Does anyone have any idea why, is it going viral or something?

It's pretty telling that Streets is ranked #1 on her Spotify Daily ATM - looks like people want R&B Doja, she might stay away from both pop and rap a bit

Honestly if nothing from Vie takes off, her team might be better trying to re-launch "Been Like This" coffee2

Planet Her the true successor to Teenage Dream by all accounts, minus the #1s but still. clap3

and yes we do need a predominantly R&B album from her at some point. There's a reason All Mine, Make It Up and Lipstain are the best songs on the album. jamming
