Should Taylor try to snatch Katy/MJ's record?

Featured Replies

Katy Perry and her male counterpart Michael Jackson currently hold the record of most #1s from a single album with 5. Considering Taylor's power, she could easily release 6 singles before the album and have them all debut at #1. Her breaking the record could be monumental, should she try to do it?

it won't be the same and you know it. those MJ and Katy Perry songs were actual hits, not quick lil singles pushed to the top by a rabid fanbase

Taylor doesn't want to associate herself with a rape supporter and a pdf file. But im sure Miss Hudson will break her own record with her next album but on the bubbling under this time around

  • She is not releasing any singles before an album these days, and you think she would even think of releasing six?

MJ tried his best but he just barely managed to match Katy's record. What makes you think Taylor stands a chance in the streaming era?

She could've done it with 1989 Taylor's version if she did a pre-release single, album release focus track, and a remix post album.

I think if she wanted to do it with a new album she would have to space it out a bit. Like maybe 4 pre-release singles over 6-7 months, a release day track with a video, and a remix after. If at her mass peak it's hard to sustain smash after smash. Ik it's not comparable to a full single but even during Midnights and TTPD droplets like You're Losing Me and AOTGYLB and singles like I Can See You didn't hit #1.

It's impossible to have more than 2-3 #1s these days and she's also frontloaded, I don't think she cares

Those records are so meaningless tbh, only a few stans remember them and the only artists that are able to compete are very few to snatch them.

Is not that great in the great scheme of things

If there's someone who can do that, that's her. She is smart, strategic and popular enough to do it.

At this point, I don't see anyone breaking or tying that record, the closest ones have gotten 3 #1 hits and that was years ago.

MJ is gone and Katy's career is dead. I don't think it is good to hold this record..

The pre-released singles would cannibalize each other anyway and would not guarantee a #1 debut/peak for all unless:

1st - Streaming only. Surprise release for shock value.

2nd - Streaming and digital sales

3rd - Streaming, digital sales, music video, promo. 4th single pre-order vinyls

4th - Release of pre-order physicals, streaming, music video, promo. 5th single pre-order physicals.

5th - Repeat 4th but this time with radio.

6th - Album release, secure pre-order physicals of focus single and go all out.

This is a CHORE for a useless record.

I think one thing you have to realize is that each of those MJ and Katy #1s were legitimate SMASHES that dominated the airwaves for months each. Not just quick lil hits that tumbled down after the initial week. So even if Taylor manages to match the peaks with all the strategy, it still wouldn't be the same.

MJ's singles were legitimate, but they didn't dominate the airwaves for months. You got to remember that radio moved very fast back in the day. Each single was phased out on radio when the next one was pushed. That's why none of the MJ singles spent more than 12 weeks on the radio charts, with all of them spending only one or two weeks at #1 on the Hot 100.

She could do it with ease - and despite some deeply delusional takes in this thread each and every one of the songs would have the recurrent streaming power to be a certified hit, regardless of things like radio adoption - but she doesn't need it. I think she should focus her chart energy on locking up an insurmountable Billboard 200 legacy.

Noone cares about H100 anymore.

Especially khia records held by Katy Perry of all popstitutes.

She's washed, let's atleast let her have that one.

She should keep blocking every little ***** who tries her on BB200, that'll show them who's boss.

Tbh I don't even know why Katy doesn't technically already own this record because of "Part Of Me" also going #1.

Billboard (and stans too) doesn't have a problem counting deluxe editions as part of the overall album stats, be that units or weeks on chart, but for some reason it doesn't apply to 'The Complete Confection'…
