As another fellow fan pointed out early, it's just accumulated frustration. They're mad that an artist they see as inferior or not of their own is gathering unprecedented success, more specifically, they hate that they're not the kingmakers in the direction pop is going. They have no power over her decisions and deep-down they wish their faves had the same work ethic.

Very true! It's just annoying to have to deal with so many rabid trolls coming out of the woodwork that jump to the dramatics of "she was never actually good" "she should never be compared to the greats after this" like...it's a few deluxe edition songs it's not that serious

At this point, Taylor's status has gone way past simple pop girl territory and turned into a phenomenon like Beatlemania - and the internet social media era coinciding with that has yielded the unfortunate and disturbing new counter-phenomenon of a literal, actual second fanbase that thrives on negativity, trolling, and snark, using her essentially as a maladaptive coping mechanism for whatever feelings for which they struggle to find an outlet otherwise. An inverted cult of identity, obsessed with the ever-incoming downfall of someone they think is safe and acceptable to hate. You can't challenge their twisted world view without being attacked, because it genuinely means even more to them than experiencing and sharing positive feelings with music we like means to us. Sad!

stan culture is really giving off maga vibes: spreading blind hate, spreading misinformation, making themselves dumber for a drag, etc. Its been crazy to see how alot of users here dont care if they're lying or dumbing themselves down or genuinely becoming obsessive and miserable making 20 threads a DAY about someone they claim is insignificant (ex: user gelato) and some been at it for years.

Theyre dumb so idk if they realize saying taylor has no talent and never did makes people like her more because the criticisms from brain fried obsessive weirdos isnt something anyone NORMAL wants to side with. Because she's the biggest name in the modern music industry and her success overshadows people they are parasocial towards, so it feels like it is a success for them in turn to see her fumble, for lack of a better term.
