I don't even think what's she's said about Showgirl is the most telling for it not being Showgirl, it's what she hasn't said. No mention of it really since Elizabeth Taylor including in her recent songwriting interviews.

And yes, I'm gonna hold her to what she said Showgirl was supposed to be because it's the first time she described a new album as something it categorically isn't.

TTPD was called a lifeline and music she needed to make -> very apparent in the album. Midnights was described as "an effort for those who toss and turn to keep lanterns lit" -> check. folklore and evermore didn't have much since they were surprised released. Lover was a "love letter to love, in all of its maddening, passionate, exciting, enchanting, horrific, tragic, wonderful glory" -> check. Reputation was described as an hidden love story amidst the chaos -> check. We can go on but you get the idea. There's always things to nitpick in the way she talks about her albums, but the result is never so far off of the original promise.

I don't see how that relates to me not even looking forward to TS13 though. Unless you think that one fail in the way she sees and describes her album means she has lost touch with reality, which I don't. Do you?

It's about anyone dreading the possibility of something Showgirl related, both here and on twitter.

And if this one apparent "failure" doesn't affect her future releases, what's stopping her from actually delivering something with a supposed deluxe? Not saying it wouldn't be bad or more of the same but we won't know that until it actually comes out. I just can't imagine not wanting new music, regardless of what it is. I don't really care about a possible debut re-release like that but that won't stop me from looking forward to it if she announces it

Also, I hope y'all know that this negativity around Showgirl won't go away once she moves on from it. Be prepared for "she's pandering to MAGA now that Trump is in office" discourse when TS13 is country

Again, it's not that I think she can't release great music (obviously, otherwise why would I even bother to be here ), it's just that I don't want it diluted in a mid album. In this situation, even a sister-EP would be preferable. Like in a folklore-evermore kind of way where both albums are complementary but also distinct and have their own identity.

And also, I'd rather choke on my words in a few months than letting myself be fooled by my optimism for the same album twice.

it's odd that it hasn't already started. i hate seeing her at the top of billboard with those songs. 3 country women ruling should've been a MOMENT for pop culture and instead it's... this.

She should build her next tour around the Showgirl aesthetic and promote it as a LOASG/20 year legacy show with a landmark show ending the tour the Vegas. It would be a waste not to build a performance or visual component around the Showgirl theme
