the chorus is good, gonna keep my opinions about this to myself but hopefully the album will be good.

To me it's very reminiscent of Melodrama but that was her only take with synthpop, so of course it will be compared 

there's ppl that are disappointed? girl... you can never make the atrl complainers happy 

if people are complaining, that's ridiculous. this sounds like a wonderful evolution of some of the Melodrama sound and I'm totally here for it! it's, simply, good pop music 

Someone else asked and didn't get an answer - do we know if it's midnight local or 12am est? Bc the former would get me the song seven hours earlier. 

The Lorde is back

she basically made an UPGRADED, better Melodrama & Melodrama was already one of the best albums of ALL TIME. 

 

NO ONE is ready. Dev Hynes playing the full song hyping up the whole NYC is one of the most fire things i've seen this year so far .

 

Like imagine having HIM on your album as a producer.

it does sound a tad like melodrama (but no complaints) 

 

chorus is pretty underwhelming for a lead though, but I have every faith in the dev x lorde combo.

it sounds like taylor to you because miss tay has been trying to emulate lorde's style with jack for a while now

Girl can we hear the first song in full before saying things like this 

They said she was trying to be Taylor when Green Light dropped and then the song went on to become the most acclaimed song of 2017. Now they're saying What Was That is trying to be Melodrama even though the sounds on that song are pretty distinct from what Lorde did on Melodrama. It is obviously synthpop but that is about it. The same people saying that stan artists that still release shades derivative of their previous work so I find it ironic that they have an issue with it here, even when the music feels fresh enough to stand on its own.
