We know this would be unthinkable back in 2018, but we are in 2025, and not only Ariana has released more albums than katy by now, it seems like she keeps getting the hits, the acclaim and has huge celebrity status. So, has Ariana officialy surprassed Katy? If so, when?

Ariana has LONG surpassed the other… every possible metric that matters and also whenever she drops a lead it's a moment and Wicked is bigger than Part of Me 3D so there's rly no competition 

Teenage Dream stills feels more iconic than anything Ariana has done but yeah, objectively speaking Ariana has for sure surpassed Katy.

Yeah, definitely. We won't ignore Teenage Dream (and Prism) impact BUT Ariana technically hasn't really had a flop era. She's like Taylor but a bit stronger on the singles side.

Absolutely. Katy will always have Teenage Dream, and to a lesser extent Prism, but even if Ariana fell off today she is already held in higher regard to Katy (Katy herself called Ariana the best singer of the current generation, so she'd probably agree). 

With Eternal Sunshine + Wicked she has, for sure.

 

She didn't reach the same heights as Katy perry did in the early 10s and I still feel like her hits are more ingrained into popular culture, but overall Ariana has created a stronger resume for herself imo and she still seems to be going strong so the gap will likely only widen now. People saying this happened long time ago are lying to themselves though.

Yes. Katy's peak wasn't enough and was comically short-lived for how big she was for those few years. Her career completely collapsed after album #3. A massive peak means nothing if you can't sustain it. Definition of a fad.

Right. If anybody thinks Teenage Dream is a better album than any Ariana album is lying to themselves. TD is a playlist album full of radio singles, curated for the iTunes digital single era. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

Katy had higher high's but Ariana's consistency is more impressive to me.

Yes. Ariana has a more impressive and longlasting career even though TD is still a bigger era than any of Ariana's

yes. meanwhile katy's peak (TD) is bigger than almost all of mpg peaks, ariana has the consistency that katy could only dream

ariana has over a decade of consistent success and hits, she surpassed the majority of pop girls from that era and even before then

A long time ago. She may never have an individual era as big as TD, but she's very consistent, more acclaimed, and will probably leave behind a better body of work and more of a legacy. 

Yes, she's been successful for a whole decade now nonstop, and huge for at the very least half of that time.

 

Yes, Teenage Dream is bigger than any Ariana era, but it's also bigger than any Rihanna album and no one would ever say Katy is bigger than her.

yes, positions being a hit album sealed the deal

 

you could argue she had surpassed her before that but by 2021 it was obvious

definitely. one major difference was that, from the jump, the GP and critics alike recognized that she was uber talented. Ariana clearly has an artistic vision and has received acclaim throughout her career for it, unlike Ms. Hudson, all of whose albums are mega PANNED 

Yeah, her peak wasn't a big as Katy's but she's been more consistent through out her career.
