For how culturally relevant Christina felt during her peak, it is sad that the answer to this may be Nelly nowadays. Christina still is a more recognizable name, especially for Gen X and early millennials, she'll have an easier time with things like booking a fat check for advertisement or a gig at broadcast TV, but when it comes to music, nothing from her is touching Loose in 2026.

The way I have absolutely no horse in this race and don't stan either of these two women, but saying in the other thread that, as a Brazilian, Gaga and Madonna concerts felt like a bigger event and talking point here, at least on my perception, was enough to get caught up with annoying stans clogging up my notifications dddd. As someone who lives in Brazil, I just wanted to get in here and share my perception that I felt that this made less noise in the country compared to the other two concerts and I thought it was funny as hell that a local Brazilian newspaper even used street vendors claiming their sales were weaker this year compared to the other two to call it a flop (which I wouldn't even call it a flop). I'm really not convinced that Shakira drew the same, let alone bigger, crowd as Gaga or Madonna tbh. We'll never know the real numbers, and probably no one really knows, but the hype around the other two concerts just felt bigger here, there were real reports coming out about a sizable number of fans traveling from other South American countries to Rio and the crowds just looked more crowded in drone footage. Michael dying made people forget how much his image was actually tarnished in the 2000s, especially in the US. It would have only gotten worse from there. Sure, he'd still have a legion of supporters, but he was pretty much treated as a joke by the media and literally every comedian alive had a roast about him at the time. So many of us here can remember how it was also a huge point that he looked so frightening that children worldwide were afraid of him whenever they saw him on TV during his trials. On top of that, his health seemed very fragile, he was no 50 year-old Madonna.

That was always the angle that creep was going for and millions of people around the world fell for it, it's sick. The jesus-like imagery, the whole "I share my bed with children because sharing love is a good thing," the narrative was always that he was so pure, innocent, and heavenly, above sinful humanity, that he was misunderstood by everyone else except children (aka white and Latino prepubescent boys, of course), who could relate to his squeaky clean, pure soul. It always felt that the underlying narrative was that he was the second coming of jesus and people were crucifying his beautiful soul just like they did to jesus. The music starting following that too.

Forgot to say this in my previous post, but the truth is that people never stopped listening to old music. People didn't simply stop listening to Party in the USA, Last Friday Night, Royals and whatever once they bought them on iTunes, we just didn't have proper ways to track consumption post-purchase in the physical and digital era. Most people listening to these older songs on Spotify aren't really "discovering" them now either. New music, especially from younger artists, has always been driven by high school teenagers and college-age young adults, who have always been the demographic shaping what is cool and fresh in pop culture. Now, with the end of monoculture and people becoming more and more unaware of what is popular outside of their algorithmic bubbles, older listeners struggle even more to build a connection with new artists, so they cling more tightly to what they've always known.

Alicia and J-lo were heavily supported by Rhythmic and Hip-hop radio stations, some of their singles even peaked higher there than on Top 40. My point was that pop radio, and pop girls who only relied on them, was struggling to compete with other formats during that era, so even songs that were strong on pop radio were still not big enough for a Top10 on Hot 100. Outside of very few exceptions, if you didn't have a crossover appeal, you were mostly out.

2001 was such a weak year for pop girls outside of a few exceptions, the fact that this peaked at #3 on pop radio but couldn't even crack the top10 despite radio being the only relevant metric at the time.

It makes no sense to name here icons who are still reaping the rewards of years of hard work. Yeah, no ****, of course people still care about Beyoncé even though her current music isn't as big anymore, she was a literal chart juggernaut during the entire 2000s and most of the 2010s. Miley isn't everywhere because of Something Beautiful, most people aren't even aware it exists, they're there for her because of the groundwork that was laid between 2006 and 2014, and that run has the stats to back it up. Anyone saying otherwise is delusional. I agree with people saying Megan Thee Stallion. Love her, but it's always felt like everybody knows her, but not many actually listen to her...take away the cute viral moments and there's not much left. Tyla is in that same boat for now. I think this happens when the internet likes someone for their vibe, looks, and persona, but the artist doesn't have it in them to capitalize on that beyond social media views and likes.

They had a cute momentum going on with React back in 2019, it is a shame that COVID destroyed their plans for a tour during that time. That would probably do well in Europe. Now it just feels that that window was closed and they have nothing going on. PCD nostalgia was never really a thing in the US, the demand always felt very UK-oriented (and some other selected european countries) and now even that is gone. They could've at least do the Hilary Duff thing of booking very small venues to study the demand and then go the real deal after the initial response, the confidence to straight up go for big amphitheaters is killing me. Just cancel the entire thing and give it up.

People are fixated on chart peaks, but it actually had a frontloaded chart run in most countries tbh. Not a flop, but it didn't live up to expectations, which is honestly what almost always happens whenever two big artists collaborate. Toxic was always destined to be the big hit of ITZ and we love it for that.

Great numbers regardless of what happens tomorrow. She kind of vanished last year and people still cared to show up even harder than back with Vampire. That is a great result by itself. Now, let's see if it'll serve stability.

Eh, I think they're pretty even for now because one excels at something that the other doesn't. Dua has more hits overall and she is a bigger name in Europe and Latin America, Sabrina is much bigger in the US and, on top of that, people care about her beyond the music there, and that make it easier to build a fanbase + generate hype towards your future releases. Dua not having a strong fanbase and relying so much on the GP 's interest will always be a weakness. I don't know what to expect from her next era after RO.
