It's hilarious how just a few days ago everyone loved this song, and now some of the same people dislike it and claim they 'knew it would flop', like they weren't saying the exact opposite before it dropped Spotify

I don't like this too much… it's a bit basic and lacks a catchy hook. Though, I'm still looking forward to this album campaign and am hoping she manages to secure a hit.

I don't give a **** if it "flops" or not, it's a bop and that's all that matters to me.

The biggest mistake they made was to release this end of August. They should have aimed for a May-June release to claim that song of the summer title. 
 

these days the only way you can get a hit is finding any types of marketing moves you can get to make some noise, otherwise just as it comes it will drop.. pretty much what's been happening to new songs lately. 

I mean if you're not Taylor, Beyonce, Gaga, Ariana with established fanbases, your eras are pretty much doomed 

 

these girls need to work harder to maintain their status similar to what Dua and  Billie have been doing otherwise their careers will not last

I hate how instant a hit must be nowadays. There's no room for a song to grow on people. The song has just been released and you're already labeling as a flop. Give it some time for the GP to get to know the song.

With that said, Doja is a slow burn artist so maybe Jealous Type challenges for top 10/5 once radio picks up. Give it until late September or album release week I guess.

I think its a cute single in the same lane of Say So. But i feel like the music scene has overall moved on from the 80s nostalgia sound. So the fact that she dipped back into the well for an entire album is an interesting choice. Not sure if that was totally her decision or a label pressure. Scarlet was definitely more current/modern. 

Yeah I think we needed more of a 90s pop urban track with choreo. Like rhythm nation

I've seen this comment a lot and tbh I don't agree. This is not similar to Say So (and KMM). It draws from different influences. I guess all 3 draw from the 80's - and tbh even that is kind of questionable because the conversation around Say So is that it started a disco revival and disco was in the 70's. But even if all 3 songs are 80's inspired, the 80's are not one sound. We treat it like that, but there was so much going on. She could make 5 completely different albums inspired by 80's sounds. Jealous Type sounds like a modernized Karyn White / Paula Abdul song, no mainstream artist has approached that side of the 80's  

I'm sorry, this song and video are perfection. Anyone trying to be like, "we needed this" is delusional and is allowing their stan-rotted brain to take over. Sometimes perfection just doesn't hit; that doesn't mean anything needed to be changed. It's clear Doja is an artist with a vision and sometimes sticking to that vision is more important. I'm sure there are other songs that will connect and smash, but NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING about this song and video needed to be different.

idk what is going on with peoples minds but ever since manchild, songs have had good debuts and then falls off till it then stabalizes

 

its a trend ive been noticing

I know there were different influences/sounds, my main point was that its a throwback track like Say So was. 

song is too short and forgettable, we all know she's capable of better.

 

come on doja, give us another 'agora hills'/'need to know'
