Perrie - "Rollercoaster"

The song is fine, but I've noticed there seems to be a pattern into making it seems like her solo music is terrible and plain basic when it's aligned to at least 70% of what's out there being a hit on charts.

Had Sabrina released "Tears" everybody would have praised that as the new pop gotha, but since it underperformed, then it's horrible. When it's actually good.

Of course this is my take, but I've seen this exaggeration bandwagon for a while and to be fair … the music is literally harmless lol especially when people asked for vocals and she gave them. Imo, she's overlooked now. Still, I'm glad she's taking time to rework her debut and eventually fix what can be done better. To think that it's mostly the fans making her go back to the drawing board and making her feel insecure of her craft, though … that irks me.

You can tell she's devastated with the reaction she's had to her music from the fans on social media. Both the rollercoaster and WIL posts were littered with negative comments talking about basic, uninspired music and we know she took a break after Tears released probably because of its reception. I worry she'll just give up and not release what she wants, when regardless of its success there was a vision and a release strategy - at first anyway.

I've loved everything she's put out so far minus this - I will support regardless I just want Pez to be happy (and if her label need hits they need to explore collabs for exposure and not scrap them)

I wonder who rejected these songs before they made their way to her.

Rollercoaster sounds ok, but in a very Radio 2 fodder / bottom of the Pop Rising playlist kind of way. Woman In Love sounds bad. But they both sound equally indistinctive and don't really make use of

  • NEITHER.   She needs to get back in the studio and find her sound because his bland faceless music isn't going to help her career.   She has such an amazing voice I just can't unde

to be honest she just needs to go on a mini tour to get refreshed and see people still support her, Leigh did that and you could tell it really helped her gain confidence back

I think they need to stop striving for a hit. The UK charts shouldn't be looked at as a way to metric success, especially not after a years-long career in a (very successful) band. It's also sadly not unusual for bands to be super successful but then for solo endeavours to be a dip from the previous collaborative success. Forget About Us is nearly a year old, she should have an album out by now and could easily be touring the UK and Europe successfully. Regardless of how good or bad any of her singles or albums may perform on the charts, she has a fan base of people who are willing to listen and presumably would also happily buy tickets to a show of hers. There comes a point where you have a re-prioritise, because otherwise she'll sadly just get dropped. :michael:

Yep, the full version is exactly what I thought it would be based on the snippet. There was genuine potential here, but unfortunately it sounds like a cheap unfinished demo. The production falls completely flat and the vocal delivery lacks a punch. I understand what they were going for with the 90s Mariah vibes, but it doesn't fully land.

I really, really, really want to be on her side. I really want her to do well. I understand that she probably has intentionally chosen to stay within her comfort zone regarding the people she's chosen to work with and she absolutely does not owe us anything after 10+ years of success with Little Mix, but I'm afraid the only way she's going to see a different outcome with her music is if she pushes herself to work with new people who are going to push her boundaries and draw out a different side to her artistry.

If Perrie or her team are keeping tabs on these forums to get a temperature check on her music and its reception, I hope they all realise that it's nothing personal. We're all fans of hers and we know how talented she is, we just want the music to match her talent. I hope that she isn't put off continuing to make music, we want the opposite for her. We want her to be inspired and motivated to push herself and release better songs.

I have a lot of sympathy for her. Ironicallly her career as part of LM means nothing for her as an individual artist. And the music reflects that. Everything so far feels like the journey and trajectory of a starting artist. Like we see her slowly struggle and trying to find her routing as a solo act. I feel her baggage as being known for being part of a machine like Little Mix which was bigger than the members kinda also puts pressure on her from the industry,, fans and others.

Her output so far has not been bad, but it lacks direction and vision. Had Perrie been a newly up and coming singer, she probably would have released the songs so far on like 3 seperate EPs so far, performed in small venues and probably stand behind her own merch stand after the shows.

But because of her career trajectory and baggage, she is supposed to be 3 steps ahead. And I feel artistically she is far from that point. And that is not shade or a drag but I feel a good exc. producer could do a lot for her

This reminds me of a Mariah song from the 90's but can't quite put my finger on it.

I agree with you. I hope she feels motivated to push and strive even harder. This can be a pivotal moment for her in pursuing a more left-field direction that can set her apart - albeit I don't necessarily find anything wrong with doing pop music at its purest meaning.

And in any case, to be fair, I'm VERY convinced had they pushed her for real in mainland Europe we would be looking at a different story … the singles she has released would have filled EU radio stations, starting from FAU and especially Tears.

The mistake these UK labels keep on doing is not leveraging on a continent that has grown tremendously streaming-wise and can bring lots of certifications and sales. But I guess it works in their favor to have such a flawed chart method.

Again, an innocent bop ! No musical identity, basic song, but catchy and addictive.

This song is actually cute. It might be the best thing she's released.

But you tell she's lost confidence. And confidence is main ingredient of being a great pop star.

God I feel really bad her.

I think she should take a bit of a break.

I think this is savable to be honest. they can salvage this one.

I think theyre trying not to make her look like Sabrina Carpenter. but its hard to not fall into that

Yeah maybe you're right. I think her label should put her back in the studio and drive this a bit more from an A&R perspective. If people respond a bit better to Rollercoaster they can explore that sound/vibe a bit more and release more tracks to see if that works.

The song is cute but it lacks something, it feels shallow for some reason. She has an amazing voice and they're wasting in basic songs (Although Tears is my jam)

You hit the nail on the head

This easily could have been my favorite, and I love it, but the production is off

Like her other songs, this is cute. Nothing she's releasing is bad, just lacklustre. I agree with those saying the production is the issue with this one.

I really want to like her music, but this is very bland and basic.

Added to pop list playlist

Assuming Sam and her team have seen all the drags on social media (towards label and team support) and have decided to do the bare minimum. A few playlists (low down) isn't going to do much but hopefully it pushes Perrie's music in the direction of some new listeners
