K-Pop Thread 2025

Tea. Everyone knows Jessica was one of the first idols to make airport fashion a thing.

She was also the first female idol to be invited to Cannes as part of a brand deal (with Chopard). She was criticized for it in Korean media with articles and comments like "what is she doing there?? She's not an actress" yet now everyone does it with brand deals.

Her having her own fashion brand also didn't stop her being front row at fashion weeks and doing multiple CFs for luxury fashion brands even to this day, including Givenchy, Celine etc.

She's friendly with all of BP and she has openly supported them too. For example, she supported Jennie's brand. Love that :heart2:

I think jessica and jennie are really close. aside from her attending the born pink tour in hong kong, wasn't jennie in jessica's house celebrating her birthday years ago? and it was just the two of them hanging out. kinda legendary celebrity friendship if you ask me :WAP:

Billboard had different charting rules troughout its history. In the download era, they chart songs regardless of its classification. In the CD era, they wouldn't chart a radio-exclusive single (until early 00s, when it became common place), and in the vynil era it would be the song the label classified as an A-side, which was problem once.

Because that song was the single, hope this helps.

Yes all the girls have worn Sica's brand in the past, Jennie is closest, she has appeared on Jessica's YouTube channel and they support each other a lot. Cute and legendary :clap3:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA If "A-side = single" why would the industry need two terms for the same thing?

I think you guys are getting lost in semantics here and you're both wrong and right. OrbitNumber1 is clearly speaking of a single album, which is, by definition, a single. You're referring to an A-side, which is, by definition, a single.

I don't think you have ever purchased a vinyl single or seen one in its original jacket.

I'm referring to the definition of a single from this century, the one that charts and labels use. They're referring to something that has literally never been a factor in kpop.

When a copy of this sold, it was counted as a sale for papa don't preach. There was an entirely separate, less relevant side chart for b-sides. I know this thread can be kind of unknowledgeable at times but 1=3 being a point of conversation for like 3 pages is insanity.

K-pop uses the term "title track", not "single". YOU are trying to apply the modern definition of single to k-pop. When they do release singles, they call it just that, a single or a "single album". Title track is not a single, in k-pop terms.

And seriously, I won't repeat myself. I already showed you why the format definition is still relevant today (the streaming platforms automatically use it), but you chose to ignore that, so I guess only one of us want this conversation to be fruitful. If you just want to feel superior, suit yourself.

I literally mentioned the word single became a synonym for feature track in my first post. :dies:

That still doesn't mean the format definition is obsolete. It isn't relevant for marketing purposes since the public doesn't make a difference of it, but it's still important internally for strategy of release, even by the parameters of the streaming platforms you mentioned. It's not that hard to do some research before you call someone a faux-expert.

If you upload a 3-track release on Spotify now, it will be classified as a single.

and on the singles chart, the two songs which aren't the single will be counted separately, because a single is a single song and you're talking about a single album, which was a format for distributing singles. Did you think that radio didn't exist until the modern era too? The single was always the point of releasing a single album.

you cannot compare gdragon to jessica

gdragon is a man from a misogynistic company from a misogynistic country. of course he was free to do literally everything he wants

jessica was trying to break the mold and be a boss lady while still doing all her obligations to her group. before she could even do serious damage her bag was literally stopped and she couldnt do anything about it. she's literally the reason blackpink exists. why the pinks own their own companies right now being boss ladies doing whatever the **** they want, blackpink being 1000000x bigger than their company and kpop as a whole

I will NAWT let anyone belittle jessica's contribution to kpop ever

You falsely miscredited her for things she did not do and this post is similarly full of lies. I do agree that the king of pop and a reseller of private labelled sunglasses should never be compared though, try to fact check next time.

Not to be old, but airport fashion was a thing before there was a Girls' Generation or BIG BANG. Bi and TVXQ were doing it before our faves debuted, girls.

And it's not a good thing. Weren't companies purposefully leaking idols' schedules to draw crowds at airports to create hype?

I literally watched this video right after IVE's live performances from HEYA onwards, and I don't mean to compare the two groups but I can't help it, the difference was astounding. Yunjin and Chaewon are hard carrying the vocals here, and Sakura and Kazuha still sound shaky. IVE didn't have that problem from any member except Leeseo occasionally. Sorry it was just such a whiplash to go from that to this lol, and people don't even consider IVE a 'vocal group' (they should btw:coffee:). Nothing against LSRFM girls though they're doing well, just an observation.

Airport fashion has been a thing as long as airports have existed. The airport fashion trend in kpop was started by GD. I tried finding receipts of Rain's pre-GD airport fashion and failed but even that search brought up a dozen sources claiming GD made it a thing.

he does give off michael jackson vibes esp with how he looks these days and the chipmunk vocals so you might be onto something with the king of pop title

Oh no he's like the greatest to ever do it what an insult

:sabrina:

Sakura and Kazuha are very far from being vocalists btw... Kazuha does the splits and Sakura is Sakura. Let's appreciate people for their strengths here.
