They were also excluding Fatou from activities, so idk what is going on. Their last comeback was I LIKE IT HOT like over 1 year ago with the MV filmed in Dubai. Although it seems the money quickly ran out because the performance video was so low budget. It's a mess. Also a shame because the members are talented, they have so much potential if they had the budget of a major company

To use a known phrase, SNSD paved the way for K-Pop groups (and girl groups in particular) in Japan from the 2010s onward.

K-Pop fanbases are also much bigger now and a large core fanbase still remained in Japan for K-Pop post-2011, which as you pointed out, helped BTS maintain success in Japan despite difficulties. SNSD did not have that and had to earn their popularity the hard way, in the face of harsh challenges and additional hardships simply for the fact they are a female group. SNSD was also excluded from Kohaku in 2012 due to political tensions that had nothing to do with them, as well as other issues including a host being racist/xenophobic to their face, following a performance of The Boys (Japanese ver.). Many of these issues would cause a company to withdraw from the market, but SNSD broke through regardless.

Those two albums were released 10 years apart (SNSD, 2011) and (BTS, 2021). When SNSD released GIRLS' GENERATION in Japan, the landscape was very different and harsh. K-Pop was deemed uncool and undesirable in Japan. The girls faced criticism for having no Japanese member and only a few Japanese speakers. There were anti-Korea and nationalist protests at the time and the girls were targeted in that. They were sexually harassed in racist manga and protesters appeared outside network studios where they were performing. GIRLS' GENERATION was an unprecedented breakthrough for K-Pop in Japan that kickstarted a brand new Hallyu wave. It became Million certified. Those girls actively changed the minds of Japan and ushered in a new era which brought in a wave of new success in Japan particularly for girlbands, another notable included KARA. While some K-Pop boybands had some success before this, K-Pop has only maintained/or grown consistently in Japan ever since 2011 and it all started with GIRLS' GENERATION.
