but see, what you're seeing as promotion is music shows performances when i'm telling you it got pushed to radio domestically and had a whole marketing campaign with domestic platforms that pushed the song to rise on the charts even without TV performances

 

just like in other countries, TV performances aren't the only kind of promo in korea

 

also i remember very vividly that the english press release stated it was to celebrate the warner deal, but it's funny because i'm reading the korean press release right now and there's 0 mention of warner. it says that it got released as part of their participation to apple music's up next program and that it's a prerelease single along life's too short (). it just shows how much of a disjointed mess SM was back then

It doesn't start and end at music shows, it's also interviews, photoshoots, public appearances. Illusion was sent out onto DSPs and then not promoted. Singles are meant to be promoted in hopes of getting a boosted profile, promotional singles are promotion.

It was released through Warner outside of Korea. The surprise drop was literally so that when journalists mentioned rising kpop stars being signed to a major, that there would be music owned by that major to bring up other than LTS which wasn't out at the time.

im just quoting the korean press release that said it was released for the apple music campaign. i think we should conclude that SM was a mess back then and you can see it by how catastrophic the entire girls era was  im so glad things got better with welcome to my world and spicy because even tho i loved illusion and girls, that era nearly killed their career

I kinda miss aespa not having bandwagoners and crunchy newgen fans.  

 

There was a time when you could say that aespa were inspired by Charli or Sophie or Britney without getting jumped by people who think that's an insult. In reality it's the biggest compliment their target audience could give anybody.

Idk about specific drums but I know everybody who attended the writing camp for aespa pre-debut was given her music as a reference for what they wanted to achieve, and that the writer/original artist of Next Level said that it was her attempt at Vroom Vroom.
