Jessica x Jennie being besties still wild to me but when you put them together, they actually have a lot in common  :eli:

Jesus, not you taking the literal meaning of the "single" :dies:

Please, google search the history of music recording. Vynil singles tipically had two tracks on it (the A-side and the B-side). CD-singles also usually had an A-side and a B-side, sometimes a third track could be there (a remix, a voice noite, etc.). In later years we also had Double A-side in UK and Triple A-side in Japan, and also the maxi-single (which exceeded three tracks, but it was just remixes of the A-side). Seriously, just study a little.

45s had a b-side because in order to manufacture a vinyl record, you needed to have something to stamp the back side with anyway. They used it either to cross-promote artists from the same label or include a non-single from the artist, which is literally where b-side comes from. Don't attempt to lecture me if you don't have the ability to figure out that single means one.

jennie right now would literally be jessica if she was still allowed to continue with snsd and wasn't banned in the entire korean entertainment industry. all the luxury brand deals. luxury brand collabs, it girl, successful solo music while still being in the most successful girl group ugh. until this day I still mourn jessica's wasted career :'(

all the snsd girlies love the blackpink girlies. they've always been the most supportive seniors for the pinks since forever

And how exactly does that contradict anything I said? You just described what a b-side is lol

If you're really taking the literal meaning of "single means one", that means that any one track in any format of release can be called a single LMAO. In music industry, single is the format. A song that was release directly in the EP/album is not actually a single.

Facts. Jessica would be massive in Korea if SM didn't blacklist her. Her 1st album was selling like crazy. On par with Taeyeon's first

which is why streaming services classify all of these standalone songs as singles whether they're actually singles or not. a single is a SINGLE song being pushed by a record label, of all the bad single arguments I have ever seen this faux-expert boomer nonsense is really something :ahh:

I guess you won't mind the so-called faux-expert to show you an explanation from GOOGLE, since you did that too.

jessica is literally the reason the pinks are successful as soloists while still being in a successful group. the reason that the pinks can have individual identities, different luxury brands and can do whatever they want solo. jessica's influence especially in fashion is not being talked about enough. she was ahead of her time

the entire kpop industry literally even nugu groups having induvidual luxury brands now is because jessica paved the way for blackpink to do this individual luxury brand stuff :deadbanana2:

the fact that sm right now is unconsciously doing what jessica pinoneered and paved the way with aespa having individual brands/identities

This is the correct definition when talking about physical releases 50 years ago, which is why you phrased the question around physical releases.

Meanwhile in the present, a Single is a single song and not a collection of songs, which is why the different tracks of a single album on are listed separately on a singles chart. It's really time to cut your losses and move on :deadbanana4:

GD has been doing this since 2009, Taeyeon since 2015. Both are infinitely bigger, both actually stayed with their groups. GD's Chanel deal was the first major brand deal in kpop.

gdragon only got his chanel deal in 2016, no? it was jessica and gdragon but jessica's bag was stopped lol she could've done so much more

Yes and it was the first brand ambassadorship of a major luxury house by a Korean idol. It happened organically after GD and Karl Lagerfeld became friends and fans of each other over several years, and then YG started the fake brand deals race when they abused GDs connections to get brand deals for BP after the Chanel one proved to lift GD's profile outside of Asia.

GD has been successful as a solo artist separate from Big Bang since 2009 though, brand deals are a footnote in his solo career instead of the main event.

Tea. Everyone knows Jessica was one of the first idols to make airport fashion a thing.

She was also the first female idol to be invited to Cannes as part of a brand deal (with Chopard). She was criticized for it in Korean media with articles and comments like "what is she doing there?? She's not an actress" yet now everyone does it with brand deals.

Her having her own fashion brand also didn't stop her being front row at fashion weeks and doing multiple CFs for luxury fashion brands even to this day, including Givenchy, Celine etc.

She's friendly with all of BP and she has openly supported them too. For example, she supported Jennie's brand. Love that :heart2:

I literally mentioned the word single became a synonym for feature track in my first post. :dies:

That still doesn't mean the format definition is obsolete. It isn't relevant for marketing purposes since the public doesn't make a difference of it, but it's still important internally for strategy of release, even by the parameters of the streaming platforms you mentioned. It's not that hard to do some research before you call someone a faux-expert.

like kesha said, period

in a perfect world both jessica and tayeon have 10 solo #1s right now and snsd is still having comebacks every 3 years as 9 :'(

Sad that we kinda no longer have any breakthrough kpop soloists outside of GD, Taeyeon,  the BP girlies and some of BTS

the 2nd Girlies like Hyuna and Sunmi weren't able to sustain their success. Chungha and Somi have bops but people barely cares about them

Hallyu is truly dying.... still hoping for my aespa girlies to break the curse :coffee2:

tbh i wish more groups did multiple singles for their albums. i just read that min heejin said she put 3 singles out of a 4-tracks EP because "it's such a pity how it's the lead singles that get all the attention" and i think she's right

i also like how aespa created multiple contents for the b-sides during welcome to my world and armageddon

The problem here is cost and time. While it's more fun for the fans, it's too expensive and way too hard on the idols to make every single song a single.

I will never understand how YG and ADOR do it, but you'll notice that the artists who do it have very, very few releases (NJ, BlackPink, 2NE1, etc.) and their companies seem to struggle with finances even when the artists are absolutely massive.

girl im sorry but i don't know why we're talking about circle. that charts is a ******* joke and nobody even cares about it

hurt is on the less popular side of newjeans' discography and it still has more ULs than all of the aespa songs you cited except for illusion which obviously smashed. + dreams come true, and up are considered as title tracks

Circle is literally the best chart globally and the most fair. It weeds out fraud in a way no other chart does.

Dreams Come True and Up aren't title tracks. Aespa's title tracks are Black Mamba, Next Level, Savage, Girls, Spicy, Drama, Supernova, Armageddon and Whiplash (in that order).

Hurt had a ton of promotion so it's not like it was some random B-side, either. I don't understand your criteria for what you want to consider a B-side. If you're just excluding title tracks, it counts, but if you're excluding digital singles, NewJeans don't even have any B-sides.

13 hours ago, OrgVisual said:

Ditto is clearly a title track wtf

It's not. It was a literal B-side on the "OMG" single.

By American standards, it is definitely a digital single. But by Korean standards, it is not a title track.

Actually, @OrbitNumber1 is right. A single used to always be a physical release and you could have an A-side (which is what we call a single today) and a B-side which was the unpromoted track but still put out to build hype.

"…Baby One More Time's" b-side was "Autumn Goodbye." Some songs would have multiple B-sides and could have up to 5 songs on a maxi single (Britney's "Someday (I Will Understand)" had three B-sides, a remix and the A-side).

Some artists even do Triple A-sides. Namie Amuro had "Naked/Fight Together/Tempest."

and Circle didn't exist in an era where this was relevant. Every iteration of the Billboard singles chart separated a and b sides. Singles charts are for songs, not entire single albums.
