There's an alternative universe where instead of this song, Crayon Pop is promoting the "Ice Cream Cake" song Red Velvet got.  And who knows how even bigger that would've went considering the Crayon Pop gals weren't adverse to making the occasional oral sex jokes on livestreams.

:cm:

Wait, you're telling me Ice Cream Cake was originally for them?

"Hurt" only hit 100M Circle digital points in South Korea. If you want to talk about a smash B-side, that would be "Ditto" which was never released as a title track. But Aespa have plenty of B-sides that have smashed and done much better than "Hurt." Up, Dreams Come True, Illusion and Thirsty all did better while Live My Life did a relatively similar number and Better Things, Life's Too Short, Salty & Sweet and Welcome to MY World all did well.

I have all of the praise for MHJ and obviously NJ are insanely popular and releasing trendy music. But they aren't necessarily having more B-side success than Aespa (sans Ditto, but that's an anomaly). Aespa have some of the most weeks on the chart and highest digital points because they chart so many songs. They only have 9 title tracks and a total of 44 entries on the charts and 904 weeks charting total. Their B-sides are popular.

girl im sorry but i don't know why we're talking about circle. that charts is a ******* joke and nobody even cares about it

hurt is on the less popular side of newjeans' discography and it still has more ULs than all of the aespa songs you cited except for illusion which obviously smashed. + dreams come true, and up are considered as title tracks

Exactly. NJ was kinda following the Western way when they have multiple singles within an album.

NJ's singles: Hype Boy, Attention, Cookie, Ditto, OMG, Super Shy, ETA, How Sweet, Supernatural

Aespa's singles: Black Mamba, Next Level, Savage, Life Too Short (US), Girls, Spicy, Drama, Better Things (US), Supernova, Armageddon, Whiplash

IVE's singles: Eleven, Love Dive, After Like, I AM, Kitsch, Baddie, Off The Record, Either Way, Heya, Rebel Heart, Attitude and 2 flop US singles i forgot the names :rip:

what about illusion and welcome to my world :rip: and dreams come true

illusion was genuinely a b-side. It didn't receive any major push. The other two are definitely singles though

illusion was literally released before the album and put on streaming before the album?? it was also performed and promoted. the only difference is that it has no music video because SM is dumb

it was not a simple b-side lmfao they released it and promoted it

They performed it during the first week of promotion on their comeback stages. Literally almost every group did that.

If you want to count Illusion and WTMW then also count Bubble Gum and Cool With You for NewJeans

so we're completely ignoring the fact that illusion was released as a SINGLE on streaming platforms a whole month before the album?? 😭😭😭😭

since yall talking about singles… illusion literally fits

they'll end up prolly around 60 - 70M and reddit told me they have the most boring concert  :matty:

It didn't receive promotions until the album came out. It was put out as a surprise drop to promote news of their warner contract. It was clarified not to be a single in the press release.

See this is what an idol ad that people actually care about looks like. :gayalipacat3:

it's classified as a single on korean platforms and its entire rollout would be considered a single by any standard (promoted or not)

It's time we move on from trying to call everything by a special kpop label and just call a single a single

not saying GD is not a mega star tho (sadly :rip:)

I really need kpop fans to stop arguing with people who understand the music industry. Being a standalone song does make it a "single" according to streaming platforms, however, it was not playlisted or promoted or sent to radio in ANY market, which is the actual definition for a music single. It was literally put out to draw press for a record deal. It did eventually receive performances, but it received performances with the album because they were promoting an album and not a single. aespa did not do a single interview or photoshoot or a music video or anything for Illusion.

GDragon is undoubtedly the biggest male popstar in Korea for sure, but I just can't get into his music at all it's so corny :rip: apart from some gems in his discog ofc.

@Windy Day Since you seem confused, a good example you might understand is how Dope and A-Yo were both promotional singles from ARTPOP and Joanne, they're considered b-sides and not actual singles. Dope even peaked at #8.

Him and his teleporting ass... I miss the times when YG acts used to do the teleportation trick on music show, no continuation or explaination just straight going from stage A to Stage B withing 0.3 seconds and then boycotting all the other music shows because they couldn't properly film them... :ahh:

No, SM made an offer to buy Chrome Ent, but CEO Hwang chose less money and more freedom from Sony.  And then the following year Red Velvet had their emergency debut to distract people from something dumb happening at SM.  Not quite sure which specific PR mess it was.  Hmm, maybe I was distracted.

omg same. i feel like he's trapped in like 2013-2014 but the GP keeps eating it up because they're not used to people being slightly different and doing it their way :rip:

maybe i need to listen to his new stuff more… idk i've heard it once but his voice is so unpleasant to listen and it's so corny… i used to listen to him when i was a teen but my frontal lobe developed… his real bops still go off at the club tho :jonny:

You'll be disappointed to know that most of the "Promoted B-Side" songs are also sent to radio. Just like those leaked 1 minute version of the MV at the end of the tv show are not leaked but sent to TV to promote the artists comeback.

Why do you think the companies send for approval the whole albums to be broadcasted.
