When the song came out people hated it and some even said she should Focus the era and start over but why? 

I don't know, I love it. 

Monotone, awful chorus

production feels clunky , vocals are too soft/quiet and badly produced.  The album is so smooth and rich and this track feels so badly done idk what happened cause the ideas were great 

It was a different sound for her so hard for some people to adapt, and it was released while the hate train for her was ongoing. It's a bop tho

Homewrecking allegations. The song was fine

I like it but the intro is way too long and the bridge is an absolute travesty - the vocal mixing is… a choice! 

it sucked, lacked accountability and wasn't what people wanted from her at the time

It's not a great song and she was seen as being unrepentant about the Ethan situation.

It's not a good song and a terrible answer to the homewrecker allegations

People are faux mad at her about the homewrecker allegations. Must not have much going on in their own sex lives.

Max Martin received a briefing from Warner's to produce music for Madonna that would capture the essence of her imperial phase. 
 

He adhered to that brief and created several backing tracks for Madonna to write over. She listened to all of them and rejected at least one for being "too on the nose" and reminiscent of her past hit "Vogue." 
 

Unbeknownst to Ariana, Max later played that same rejected backing track for her weeks later—she liked it and wrote lyrics over it without ever knowing that Madonna had turned it down. 

The final product became "Yes, And?".

 

Even though Ariana collaborated with Max on her album after Madonna - Ariana went on to complete her album much quicker and released it first. 
 

In the meantime, Madonna left the sessions with Max with the backing tracks she wanted to keep and brought them to Stuart Price, where they critically assessed them, reworking, rejecting, embellishing, reproducing, and replacing the best of what Max had created.

It was the sacrificial lamb that took all the heat so by the time We Can't Be Friends + the album came along, most people had moved on from the hate train

I never liked that it sounded like such a Vogue rip off to me. Also, releasing a song like that in the middle of the homewrecking allegations was basically career su1.cide

Song isn't great but the use of the improv rule as a chorus in the middle of the allegations was ingeniously evil
