The best thing would be go the Robyn route. she has an interesting take on sound and great ideas and vision that wont sell but could provide her with a fanbase.

Her next single is already chosen... She teased it in the Midnight video, it's called Fantasy. They clearly have a plan until the end of the year, at least.

 

She herself said in the caption that this is just a promo track.

AOMD was fantastic and build up some great hype but she should've hit us with a hit single like last month already. y'all act like she's an established artist that can experiment with her schedule. an ignorant exec at her label can look at her stats and shut things down on a whim, y'all would cry what went wrong. this industry is ruthless.

 

hopefully she goes independent if things don't work out, I want a full album out of her so badly. but unfortunately she would have to give up this project and start over.

I was about to say the same. 

Pop culture and charts really rotted peoples brain into thinking they can only enjoy something when it pulls numbers. 

I do understand the feeling of wanting something you enjoy to do well because money/success is important but thinking about what numbers will it pull when it was just released is off putting imo.

is her not releasing a song people have been asking for... not striking while the iron is hot? the song just released yesterday & you're already talking about her getting dropped from a label. clearly you're not a real fan... and you're only going to want/listen to her album if it pulls massive commercial success. either way don't get on this thread trying to prove a point that make ZERO sense. thanks.

Amazing promotional single! Her label is making all the right moves positioning her in alt-pop lane post-Brat. 
 

This won't be a smash but it's the type of song that builds an artist a lane and fanbase. 
 

Plus AOMD is still charting top 20, so dropping a budgeted new single now would be stupid.
