The song is not something that needs a 2024 release. It would have been major in 2014.

don't worry we made the song debuted at top 5 despite it leaked 1.5 month in advance and was shot on a ******* iPhone

she's dead

it's mediocre, but you can still milk the mediocrity into something bigger and long-lasting, but this release is just mired in weird decisions that dont make any of this feel authentic.
it probably woulda done better if it had a different title.
the dr luke fiasco was a crap choice for a song about women empowerment.

her gimmick feels immature now, and therefore annoying? idk, i never got a genuine vibe from katy in the past when she dressed as burgers and did the candyland thing and the dancing sharks and whatnot...like, she's got a dorky brand. i could give it a pass then, but it just feels like a media trained jojo siwa to be doing it now.

last thing i liked from her was NRO and Daisies. they felt like mature steps from all her previous hits which were like, costuming different cultures or personalities or archetypes or social roles, whatever. im not tryna laser on her being an appropriator (she was) just like....idk, the times past for her to still be tryna to do all that pissing at a urinal and goofy makeup with trisha in a monster truck. i rolled my eyes.

Bad song, no star power, doesn't have a big enough loyal fanbase like every other major popstar to fall back on, etc

 

Her few dedicated stans saw long black hair and convinced themselves (and tried convincing others) that it would suddenly be like 2013 again. For the past 7 years they've been SO sure that the reason she's has kept bombing was bc of her hair — hopefully now they can put that lie to rest. 

The Katykats hyped this up to be ha BIG comeback too!

The kind of music she made/makes just doesn't appeal to Gen Z the same way it did to Millennials. I think her being quirky and goofy is just kind of cringe to younger people

Katy's career had no momentum to begin with and the song isn't memorable.
