I mean if you actually look into the production and conception process of both albums you'd see FN was meticulously designed to be massive, with huge production and songwriting camps and specific sessions with every massive producer in pop. RO was made in like a year with 5 people + a few more sprinkled in and is a muddled mess bc of it. FN wasn't a fluke it was just designed to be massive and this wasn't. 

There was structural planning for FN by the label. They clearly had a vision to make a huge pop album to levitate Dua into a huge superstar and cement her as the main pop girl. And it worked.

So why did they let her flop with RO? What was the point to turn her into a mpg for just 1 era

She ditched her management team for her father

Omg I just finished listening and commented in the album thread that FN seemed like a fluke and then just saw this thread

she has served with the music videos though so something is going right there.

 Artistry? It could have been released by anyone. Her A&R was just good at picking songs. But yes, it was most definitely a fluke.

It was big bc the sound was inoffensive and had mass appeal. Not so much for RO - it showcases more of her artistry and eccentricity which is inherently not going to have the mass appeal that FN was designed to have

What about her debut? It had 2 smash hits and 5 billion streams without the re-release?

 

New Rules was huge though, so it isn't like she just has one successful era.

Idk about a fluke per se, but I did think people were getting a little too carried away over how big the era was.  It was a very timely sound, but I still felt like I didn't know her as an artist.  
 

I am a casual fan, so I just assumed it was that.  But I had a feeling it was a lighting in a bottle moment. Shes talented though, so she'll find her footing.

They were thinking she would have her Folklore moment. 

It wasn't a fluke. Its success was a result of a lot of hard-work, well delivered cohesive vision and ruthless promo tactics.

 

I think you also can't undersell the impact COVID had. Like people barely had anything to do but listen to music and FN dropped at exactly the right moment.

 

It had a very "outside" sound when people couldn't go outside and gave people positive vibes at a time when there was a lot of negativity. I'd even wager that Levitating really popped off because it peaked right as people were starting to go back outside again and it also captured that moment. They were able to drag that era out for a long time also because it's not like other artists were dropping left and right and there was much less risk of being overshadowed or "overexposed" even though she was heavily promoting the album.

 

Now she's dropped an album full of chill bops and no bangers and there's no particular reason to pay attention.

 

A lot of artists benefitted in different ways from COVID - Dua, Doja, Megan, and probably most prominently Taylor - the trajectory she was on with Lover if she had been able to see that era out wouldn't have ended with her where she is now. It was Folklore that completely reinvented her career commercially and most importantly critically.

All the playlisting and radio just showed how inorganic FN was. Everything collapsed once she changed her team.

Inorganic? There's nothing more organic than seeing an artist whose numbers fluctuate. It's one of the easiest ways to spot when there isn't payola.

Obviously that's not even a third of what she's eligible for, but to claim she only had FN is laughable at best.
