Perrie - "Forget About Us"

only #10 is pretty underwhelming to me. they dragged this release out for over a month, had physicals, itunes discount, viral tiktoks, all for her debut single... and it ended up just one spot off Leigh-Anne's peak...

I'm disappointed!!! especially bcuz Sabrina (#6) cleared her with such ease

This week was more competitive than Leigh's and not all the physicals were counted toward the chart, only the CDs were.

Vinyls and Casettes + MV are hopefully all going to go towards the second week (If vinyls and casettes ship).

I agree it's slightly disappointing seeing how well we did at the start of the week and then the struggle at the end but we still secured top 10 and no matter what, this will float around the top 40 for quite a few weeks if streaming doesn't pick up on Spotify.

visually very pretty music video but fells a bit shallow with only beauty shots. I thought it would've had some sort of story line clips (plus these beauty shots) on it since it is quite emotional song. but it is good too as it is:twirl3:

Not gonna lie, the music video is very underwhelming and disappointing. I expected at least having some scenes reflecting the lyrics with a male co-star and scenes of having flashbacks to the relationship they had.

she really flew to south africa to shoot this? this could have been easily filmed in the uk

Well, that video was… a choice, but I'm glad she made it to the top 10. :clap3:

the music video might be simple, but it's beautiful and well-made! I like it!

this is too generic unfortunately

i hope the second single serves more artistry

this is already out of the top 50 on UK spotify, so looks like it's dead on arrival; at least she has airplay on her side which might keep it afloat longer

Maybe she's saving the budget for the next video. She's proving it's the second single that saves the era :heart2:

Not to worry. I have a feeling radio will help this in the next couple of weeks when Taylor mania calms down. It's #10 if you don't count the rest of Taylor on AM.

the video is fine, even huge global artists don't get big budgets anymore for music videos cuz so few people watch them compared to 10 years ago (at least in the case of western artists).

some tweaks like a 4:3 aspect ratio and more retro effects might've helped a bit

edit: wait how did this take 3 days to shoot? :deadbanana:

oh well, things could've been so much worse in terms of the song and the video. wasn't someone on here saying it was going to be P!NK style music? :rip:

well no because streaming is a lot slower to build on UK spotify and even more so for pop songs. it's heavily influenced by HHUK playlist, where Perrie is still pretty low. there's a lot of room to grow and stabilise there.

I wasn't aware that this is already #1 on airplay charts

Oh wow? Well maybe it could pick up on streaming if radio keeps forcing it down people's throats :clap3:

Glad she got Top 10 but she could have got higher if the video was released last week and if they put out all the physicals.

I expected the video the be crap based on the teaser we got on Jonathan Ross but I actually enjoyed it? Don't get me wrong it's nothing amazing (or close) but I liked the camera following her all over.

I can't believe they went all the way to South Africa for most of the video to be indoors :deadbanana2:

Both Jesy & Leigh-Anne gave bigger budgets music videos :deadbanana2:

And Jesy was independent with her second video :deadbanana2:

The way Jesy's actually served the best solo videos so far, in my opinion.

The CDs barely helped in sales but made the difference between debuting #10 and #11. It was only 1.2k CDs.

10 25,915 Perrie - Think About Us [1,283 CDs]
11 25,617 Michael Marcagi - Scared to Start
12 24,023 Noah Kahan - Stick Season

Oh wow, that really was super close in the end

Lots of thoughts...

* The video was meh. But I could tell from the previews. Reading here that it was a "three-day shoot" is laughable.

I do suspect, though, a lot of acts shoot visuals abroad because of lower production costs. IIRC, Leigh-Anne's largely studio video for Don't Say Love was randomly shot in Turkey. If lower costings means the coins can be apportioned to elsewhere in the campaign, then I'm here for it.

* Glad she got the top 10 in the end, but kinda surprised she literally scraped the "#10" specifically given how comparatively high the mid-week was. Not as plugged into the what's going on with the physical situation (were they all delivered in the tracking week?), but this isn't screaming the barnstorming hit it "felt" like it could have been (all things considered). Hearing it's dipping on streaming isn't the most encouraging either.

It could, of course, turn the tide with summer approaching, promo, and a more slow and steady ascend. But looking at the data rather than "hoping" or "theorizing" and it's giving moderate hit. I literally want all the Little Mix girls to win, but debuting only one spot higher than Leigh-Anne's debut as the group's unofficial "lead" doesn't fill me with buckets of hope. Atm it all screams "moderately successful"...from the song's run to Perrie's overall solo venture.

All of which supports my long-held gut feeling that...

Little Mix went solo way too late! I hate industry politics and ageism, but it's clear (as day) to see that they all would have been better positioned to go solo either just before LM5 or just after. Confetti always gave final era (from its name to its placement in their album trajectory), so there would have been no harm in it arriving a year later than it did, if it was always gonna be a swansong exercise and more tour-focal anyway.

In the idealist scenario, it should have been something akin to how the Spice Girls cross-pollinated their solo launches with the release of Forever. Most were signed to the same label as the group and their solo releases were purposefully/intentionally mapped to lead up to the group's comeback album and were even promoted alongside it post-release. It was really unique, kinda messy in places, but pretty unprecedented (then and now).

Alternatively, they could have just verbatim announced a 1-year to 18 month "break" to explore solo ventures and have been very verbal that they were coming back together for the next Little Mix album (which would in actuality be the final album). Pretty much the Destiny's Child/Destiny's Fulfilled model.

Either scenario would have given the girls a chance to start building solo stock much earlier and provided fertile ground to spring from once the group officially ended.

Them all trying to carve out solo careers 2-3 years after the group wrapped, with no streaming footprint, in an ageist industry that still sadly tries to throw women to the side after age 30...and with fans that are now older and less engaged, will make this a real uphill battle... for them all.

Leigh-Anne struggling was one thing, but Perrie limping in at #10 pretty much confirms my point.

Do you have the sales numbers of #7-#9 I tried looking on the official chart last night but couldn't find it

It was a very competitive week. I understand what you're saying and I agree but even with the extensive promo this week, she got top 10 without a MV on release week (yes views are abysmal but if released day of release views would be way higher), performances and the majority of her physicals (vinyl and a few cassettes).

Im assuming there plan is to keep it afloat in the second week so we will just have to see. Its doing great in airplay and the fact its holding up on iTunes (which yes doesn't matter too much) is a good sign.

Fair points.

The only thing about airplay is that it can be kinda deceptive when trying to ascertain the true resonance of a track.

I hate to keep bringing up Leigh-Anne, but I guess it's a relevant comparison.

Don't Say Love and My Love were SPAMMED by Capital (her main demo) and did pretty well in airplay overall. Didn't translate to sales, streams, or longevity for either release.

All that said, I don't think the current situation needs to be doom or gloom. For any of the girls, actually.

I think a lot of us have grown up with the band narrative of "big group success" followed by "big breakout star". Whereas this new era of music doesn't seem "as" obsessed with that. Several narratives can exist and thrive at the same time.

The reality is that Perrie could carve out a mainstream solo career comprised of moderately successful top 10 hits and decent selling albums, Leigh-Anne has the potential for a big moment (My Love remains the best release from any of the girls, IMO) but equally could get by on a more Tinashe-like trajectory with constant output and built-up respect, while Jade has the edgy, queer, quirky, and artsy scene on lock ala Charli XCX.

All enhances the Little Mix brand post-hiatus and undoubtedly gives them all equally-weighted talking + growth points when they inevitably come back together.

Still #32 on Hot Hits UK. Pretty sure it was around the same region last week. It's great that it didn't drop :heart2:

Rooting for this to keep going. I definitely think they should have gone a little harder on the debut week. A comfortable #7 debut would be better, in terms of optics, than having to fight for #10. But the song is GREAT so I think it can have legs :duca:

UK Spotify

Day 8

88 (-31) 127,511 (+4k)

Big drop in terms of positions due to Taylor but the streams are still stable. Good to see that it being taken off New Music Friday didn't seem to have an effect. Hopefully they can move it up HH UK a bit more
