YA vs. CTTR 1st month chart comparison

Featured Replies

I read on the ATRL that "Chained to the Rhythm" was a huge "frontloaded" flop for Katy Perry and Ariana now has "Yes, And?" - it's an analogue of CTTR.

So I decided to look at several large markets' national charts and compare the positions during the first month to test the hypothesis.

Australia

CTTR: 4-6-7-12

YA: 2-4-12-13

Austria:

CTTR: 17-14-8-7

YA: 3-12-27

Belgium:

CTTR: 47-13-11-6

YA: 6-10-13

Canada:

CTTR: 3-4-3-4

YA: 1-7-10

Germany:

CTTR: 25-13-6

YA: 8-13-19

Italy

CTTR: 23-13-15-12

YA: 19-34-46-94 :rip:

Japan:

CTTR: 31-54-37

YA: 35-54-91 :rip:

Sweden:

CTTR: 12-9-9

YA: 6-11-20

US:

CTTR: 4-8-12-13

YA: 1-6-17

UK:

CTTR: 7-5-5-17-11

YA: 2-3-5-7

What? Katy Perry's career was practically a non-stop growing curve for 6 straight years, capped off by a record-breaking Superbowl performance in the 7th year

I knew it wasn't going to smash, but WOW its global downfall is way worse than I expected. Ariana really needs to drop that 2nd single.

Her "Bon Appetit" (feat. Nicki Minaj) is coming to us.

hit making days were not gonna last forever and she and nobody is immune to flopping. Shocked people thought Ariana would be an exception

But I thought everyone said YA is bigger? What happened? Oh right, facts happened

CTTR did well despite being a risky political statement :clap3:

CTTR has a really catchy chorus , gorgeous melody.

YA is lackluster , from the vocals , to the hook.

Katy did that without tiktok, instagram reels or any viral social media too

Now Katy Berry, can u stop with this flawed logic. Each time period has its own stronger platform/metrics. Back to when CTTR was released, Youtube and iTunes were still going strong. Now instead of utube and iTunes the things you mentioned replaced. So no one is more benefited.

Everyone did at that time ??

YA is a flop but Ariana is on her 6th era, she can recover, Katy was declining after her 2nd era so whatever :rip:

This isn't true. TikTok definitely helps songs more than ever to become hits

Doesnt apply to established MPGs. When MPGs release sth, they will debut well. After that it depends on so much more to see if it sticks. TiKTok only helps random songs from random artists to get viral or old songs/hits to have a revival. Apart from that, it's just another platform. I mean if Yes, and? was released back to when CTTR was released, it would have had a similar chart run.

CTTR really served organic hit in Europe

It was pretty big in Europe in spring 2017. I was on a Euro trip then, and everywhere you could hear Shape of You, Human (Rag'n'Bone Man) and Chained to the Rhythm.

Sadly, CTTR seems forgotten today among Katy's catalogue, which is a shame, since it is one of her absolute best.

I still have high hopes for ES, Witness was tiring to listen to after a while. :michael:

what is ATRL's obsession with comparing every flop/ underperforming single to CTTR? :skull: a few months ago everyone was comparing Houdini to CTTR, now YA. just because a girl has a flop doesn't mean she's entering her Witness era

Ariana now has 11 years of career, what was Katy releasing with 11 years of career? NRO? compare it with that :gaycat3:

CTTR should be compared to Positions, but we know why you didn't do it.

+ is Katy the new Paula Abdul?

CTTR definitely feels much bigger.  If Yes, and? fails to reach the Top 10 on Pop, then for sure it's weaker.

CTTR's stats aren't that terrible:  556,293,935   +152,915

for being basically a pre-streaming era song, over 500M isn't bad at all, imo.  It's currently doing better than Never Really Over.
