There's already some trends that are starting to take off (particularly the look at me verse)

This is making no noise. Hopefully she has a cute hit planned for single #2 or RCA is going to pull the plug on the album.  

Even if this album flops commercially (I’m sure it’ll still hit #1 regardless of a hit single) it lays the groundwork for her next era to be a return to form with pop smashes again. That’s the silver lining. 
 

Doja took off bc of her goofy / sexy persona. It’s a big gamble to expect the GP to embrace an image that basically flips her entire brand. It’s especially risky to do it so early into an artist’s career.

 

More than anything this song feels like a stubborn statement to hit back at online chatter, so she could have the last word. But like someone else in here said… it mostly comes off as her scorning the attention and fame she wanted in the first place. 

I love the song, she snapped. I was not expecting to love it so much. 
It was a bold choice for first single, I commend her for that, it's a shame if it doesn't smash, bc the chorus is top notch.

This song is making so little noise that I wouldn’t even worry about it flopping. She can just come back with a bop for single #2 and the GP will eat it up and be none the wiser

 

I still don’t like this song, but I’d rather her release material she’s into rather than just shoot for hits forever. I’m still hoping single #2 is more appealing to me, but this single flopping isn’t a pop emergency or anything. If single #2 is a bop and still flops, then something happened with the GP and Doja (maybe her controversies catching up to her) but we’re not there yet and I don’t think we will get there either.

Haven’t gotten tired of this yet. Gets better with each listen and I’m still trying to learn all the lyrics 😮‍💨

yikes, curious how/whether it'll pick up.

This feels like her Happier Than Ever era. Drastic image change, petty backlash, lukewarm performing lead. I bet the album itself will be critically acclaimed though and have good longevity.

Still top 10 on Spotify in the US which is better than I expected for this avant garde bop

The way I don’t even want to listen to it again until the album drops  The hook is good but the verses aren’t really resonating even if the content is good.

This is growing on me! I still don't see it as "single material" but it does what it does well.

Since this is song is clearly a palate cleanser  and not something they're going to push, I wonder when the 2nd single is coming. It should be soon, but I don't think we've seen her shooting another video recently.
