Why is "Lover" considered bad?

Featured Replies

Sure it's no 1989 or Folklore but it's a cute pop album, why did ATRL not like it when it was released?

Mostly Me! But if you listen to the whole album in full it's incredible.

Lil Nas blocked two singles on Hot 100, which ruined the momentum. And we all know ATRL is obsessed with chart peaks, so they categorized the album as "flop" before it even got released.

the biggest amount of duds among any recent taylor albums, bad corny cliche songwriting, uninspired melodies and awful single choices

Frankly, it’s not a “cute pop album”, as it is her highest rated prior to folklore and so forth. :deadbanana2:

ATRL got one thing right though, call it as it is, a bad Taylor Swift album.

Taylor herself even said that this album was made effortlessly.

Because for every cruel summer, Lover or Daylight there are I forget you existed, meh or the man

because its a horrible album from the vocal mixing to the vocal takes to the production and the songs themselves

Because it has too many bad songs. 2 or 3 being extremely bad.

it had a lot of career lows for taylor. the single choices were horrendous, and it wasn't a very cohesive album. it did have some great tracks, but the bad ones really dragged it down.

Bad first single

others dislike the other singles too (I was surprised that Lover wasnt as loved either??)

but yea..it's a bit overhated

however blame the fans that used it to bash Reputation, now they dont even claim it (their fake ass)es

Three reasons:

1. bad single choices

2. her first album since Speak Now to not have a number one single

3. her first album since Fearless to not sell a million copies in its first week

It's an atrocious album, and its lead single is one of the worst songs in human history. Cruel Summer is the only decent song on the record.

It's not that it's bad it's just the rest of her discography is so strong it sorta pales in comparison. I enjoy it tho!

Singles, that are/should represent the album, were bad (except for Lover). But in the end people give a change to the album and the tracks are so much better.

her worst singles ever (only Lover was good)

some of her worst songs placed in one album

some are really great but the bad is really bad, the visuals were also SUPER TACKY, from the performances to the music videos

and also how proud she was of the "hey kids, spelling is fun"

It's not.

It's just because people hate the singles :dies:

but lover (the song) is deservedly trash :clap3:

For me, it has the most skips of any Taylor album, and I’m a huge fan.

“Me!” is corny, “Paper Rings” is an immediate skip, “I Think He Knows” has grating production, “London Boy” is a skip, and “Afterglow” and “Daylight” blur into one another and seem reductive.

Because it just is? Idk what answer you’re looking for. Just because it’s had a chart resurgence doesn’t mean its quality is automatically improved

I no longer consider it a bad album - I think it is 'ok', but it has the biggest amount of songs, given the amount of tracks on the album, when compared to other albums she put out. Out of the tracks on the album, I am likely to skip the following regardless of the reason: The Man (like the instrumentals), Paper Rings (hate this song), London Boy (hate this song), Soon You'll Get Better, ME! (hate this song). You Need To Calm Down has too much of an infectious beat for me to skip it, despite sometimes wanting to. Afterglow / Daylight are too similar as well.
