People loved "Plastic Hearts" a lot, and Miley regained respect for her great rock performances and covers. She employed similar tactics to Lady Gaga, who regained her reputation with "Sound of Music," "Cheek To Cheek," and "Joanne" back in 2014-2015. New creed New success 
 

The song has a disco-funk vibe, The "It Genre" in the moment with Synthpop. 
 

There is a new label and better investment this time. Better payola-playlist support-autoplay. RCA was a mess.

The breakup drama helped popularize "Drivers License," "Lose You To Love Me," Shakira's "Session 53," and "Flowers." People are drawn to drama. Hopefully, Kelly Clarkson will be able to capitalize on this trend too with her "Husband Revenge song" "Chemistry" tiktokers do your job

A combination of factors, we'll never know the weight each one had, but it's clear the GP loved the song because otherwise she would have had a huge debut but no longevity. Releasing it right after her NYE special was a very smart move. Promotion was also really well done and Shakira's song being out just one day before was an incredible gift, as people were suddenly really invested in watching female artists dragging their exes. That has contributed a lot to the song's amazing performance in Latin America & Spain. It was a perfect storm for Miley.
