Dubai is not the enemy. They're not the ones mass shooting children and gays every week for instance.

Dubai is terrible but I don’t think there’s a person in this planet that would say no to 24 million for a couple hours of performing.

Like it’s very easy to be in this forum talking out of your ass and pretending to be moral, but no one would pass on that opportunity.

With both Nicki and Beyonce, it just shows they give 0 fucks about their gay fanbases :ahh:

All of our faves are morally corrupt. Deal with it.

The Arabs want a sighting of Bey too who even cares? Every country on this world is ****** and has issues. Blackpink just performed in a stadium in Saudi Arabia. Nobody asks them if they agree with the local legislation there. And why should they even agree with the legislation there in order to work there? Would the energy be the same if Beyoncé gave a performance in north-carolina which continuously pass extreme anti-LGBTQ bills? On top of that, the UAE literally don't even criminalize that specific law i believe. Its not enforced. so yes, Beyonce can and should be able to perform all over the globe like the global mega star she is. She worked hard to be able to do this.

Blackpink performing there isn't even the same thing. Beyonce has a LGBTQ fan base. BLACKPINK are a group from a niche genre

You're smoking crack if you say you wouldn't stand in place and sing some ballads for $24 million dollars

She’s already a multi-millionaire though and didn’t need this money.

Considering Renaissance is so heavily inspired by LGBT culture then it makes sense that people would be annoyed by this, especially when it’s her first major performance this era.

I’ll turn a blind eye to this problematic action and keep listening to Renaissance though.

I think there's a difference in performing for fans in the given country or for the elite that contributes to maintaining the anti-LGBT status quo. I wouldn't have a problem with her doing a regular show in the UAE, Russia, etc, as there are queer people there too that want to see her. Government/bourgeoisie/corporate events are obviously a different story and her little Dubai stint is disappointing.

I don't see why not. She hasn't shown signs of caring for her fans for a decade, if you choose to feel outraged now then you're a bit late!

It does make sense, that was my criticism from the jump, which she then silenced by not performing a single song from the record. She was sensitive to the feelings of queer fans regarding our connection to this new body of work she released and gave them a nice lil ballad show, so I have accepted in my heart she deserved that money.

There Is nothing wrong to perform in a countey with homophobic laws cause Gays are there too and you make music for the people and your fans.

I haven't read what Is It this Beyoncé show  but i Guess Is something promoted/ She get paid by some Person there Is part or give his Money to the same anti lgbqt or anti women politicians.

So Yes this is wrong and hypocritical from thesw supposed democratic celebrities.

Does She really need the Money ? :ninja:

Is that how much she got? I mean slay

But also, aren't they worth a billion combined lol

She can perform anywhere people want her to perform. It's just the fact she chose to perform THERE before any other country, and also performing in front of rich privileged people before performing in front of actual fans.

I'm not saying it's wrong, she can get as much money as she wants, I'm just saying it's hypocritical coming from the artist who made a brand off fighting for people's rights, freedom and all that stuff. And before some Bey stans come for me with mental gymnastics, I'm just saying this as an opinion, I love her music and consider her as one of the greatest performers of all time, but it doesn't make her exempt of being called out whenever she does questionable stuff.

They didn't come up when I searched it, but I think that's messed up as well. Actually, probably the most messed up for Gaga who has especially used the whole gay activist shtick when she was starting out / in the BTW era. Madonna too.

Yeah I think this is where I'm at too.

She's actually a billionaire on her own. Her father reported that she reached billionaire status quite a few years ago. She just refuses to disclose her net worth to Forbes.

Legend.

Makes me a bit sadder then that she still does stuff like this. I'll still listen lol – takes Kanye level hatred for me to really stop listening to a fave – but it's still a bit disappointing

Didn't Gaga perform at some sport event inauguraton?. That's  different. That's global, that's for the people, that's not only a performance for the elite of the country.

It’s not as though she performed for the Islamic state :rip: It’s a business endeavor for a luxury hotel that used her as a status symbol. Most people who visit to Dubai do it as a way to flaunt their wealth and status. Gay men included. As long as the PDA laws are being abided, but it’s a purely all based on a culture of decadence.

Besides. Beyoncé is despised by racist, homophobic republicans/conservatives when it comes to America, yet I don’t see ATRL taking that into consideration when they drag her by using the stats of MPG’s that benefit from that very conservative demographic. Transparent.

Nah, the anti LGBTQ laws are enforced and even queer tourists have been deported and increasingly placed in danger with the law. like others pointed out, this is a government sponsored event aimed at increasing the city's popularity and visibility. And I would actually have a problem if Beyonce were to perform in NC for state officials if the state government were to pass/enforce laws that make it illegal to be openly gay with consequences of deportation and/or jail time...

You can say you don't care enough for it to impact your views on her. I still love Beyonce. But let's not pretend the UAE is tolerant of gay rights and do this whatabout-ism. Both could be wrong.

Can't we acknowledge both as wrong? Can't it be disgusting that the U.S. Congress refuses to pass gun safety legislation, as well as that the UAE has laws banning people from openly being queer and jailing/deporting people who are visibly gay?

This too. Can't we condemn racism and homophobia in America but also in the UAE? Like why does pointing out that queer people are jailed for being gay in Dubai somehow translate to not recognizing that Beyonce and every Black artist faces inexcusable racism?

I don't see how this changes the question: is it alright to perform at a government-sponsored event for a regime that oppresses gay people. And not in the sense of trying to curb marriage equality, but literally make it illegal to be with someone of the same sex.
