Yes her fans that live there are not the ones making these laws and should be able to see her perform

I agree. But this wasn’t a show for fans. It was for those who run the country.

Nah, it’s different from her performing for politicians. It would be like a huge hotel company ala the Hilton opening up a huge resort top of the line resort and inviting a bunch of influencers and celebs for the occasion with Beyoncé as the star of the evening :gayoncecat1: with this logic she shouldn’t perform in states with anti transgender laws, places that ban abortion or places with a rich history of racism with some laws still technically in effect as is the case in many places around the world. She is not responsible for the law everywhere in the world, she’s an entertainer not a politician

In the UAE, the ones she was performing for are the ones who effectively run the government and thus the anti gay legislation and enforcement. I think Beyoncé should perform at a stadium in Florida, but it would be pretty messed up if she performed for DeSantis and his donors. That’s why I’m personally disappointed. Especially since she is not strapped for cash at the very least lol

I didn’t see that because I dont really check for her since I’m not a big fan of hers like I am for Beyoncé - lol but what Kylie did is wrong then too if it was for a state sponsored event.

Very convenient.

I guess you’re no fan of other gay icons like Diana Ross, Madonna & Gaga either.

who have all performed there.

For 24M all the gays here would give Putin and Hitler a BJ in front of their mothers.

If you read the thread I criticized them too. Not Diana since I didn’t know that. But I’m not sure how “what aboutism” changed the question I’m asking.

I’ll still love Beyoncé after this and listen to her music- but I think after hearing this was a government sponsored event as opposed to a concert in Dubai itself for fans, I was disappointed. As a gay fan who was there when she spoke up for marriage equality after the Supreme Court decision and when she came out with this queer inspired album, I was really happy to show up for us. So now, when she’s performing for a gay-oppressive regime, I dont think it’s that wild to raise some concern

Fight your own battles and stop expecting entertainers to do your bidding.

Read the thread. Sam should be dragged too, especially if it was a government sponsored event.

I’m not gonna sit here and put a list of every performer who has or will be performing in Dubai. I was on Twitter and Beyoncé in Dubai was trending. And when I saw it was for a state sponsored event, as a big fan-  I was pretty disappointed.

So tell me you’re deflecting without telling me you’re deflecting

Amazing that everyone here is saying the amount is right so lets overlook it. I guess money over morals is the real way :cm:

Girl we’re on a pop forum that discusses singers and entertainment. I’m not allowed to ask if it’s ethical for superstars who lean on their gay fans to perform for government officials who oppress queer people? Come on

Nothing about beys event was government affiliated. The hotel is owned by a South African man. You’d think you’d do a lil research before expressing faux outrage. :rip:

As long as you take the local d in privacy, you'll be fine but if u get caught in a police traffic control or in a hotel doing gay sex or any gay behaviour, u will pay dearly for it and it happened..

I know. That's why I was fine and so why all the gay men I met. :skull:

Also, "gay behavior" in Asia is just actual sexual acts. You can be reasonably effeminate and still "pass." I was in Riyadh and it was full of obvious queens and no one cared at all. In the west, they get stared at or even harassed if they act like that in the "wrong" areas. :deadbanana2:

this 1960s low bar. Are we really saying it’s acceptable to have to only be gay in the shadows? And it’s not just about sex. It’s not being allowed to speak up for gay rights or advocacy.  No familial or speech protections. Jail time if caught or reported to be having consensual sex.  And you’re trying to explain that away as acceptable? Yikes.

It's a private event with celebrities flying from all over the world to attend :skull:

I guess we should cancel any celebs who take vacations in Dubai too

Imagine believing that :deadbanana2:

Nobody cares about the queens in Riyadh? What are u going to tell me next, that u attended a gay pride there and no one cared?

Again as long as you're at a private party indoors and no one calls the cops, you'll be fine, if you get caught then it's game over..

I know a filipino femboy who was giving a warning letter by their employer in dubai for painting their nails only.. Yes, there is homophobia everywhere, but not at all like in conservative countries where even the law cannot protect u from it, we can tell the difference, it's not even arguable :rip:

First, I’m not trying to cancel anyone. I’ll still be listening to Beyoncé and wish I could get a ticket to see her in concert. Second, I think there is a difference between: vacationing in a place, performing at a concern accessible to the public and fans of a place, and here: performing privately at an event sponsored by and funded by government officials of a regime that oppressed gay people

If you say so, as far as I know, none of my favorite artists have charged millions of dollars to open a hotel in a country where the rights they defend are not respected.

maybe your faves aren’t good or interesting enough to get booked for millions in the first place :michael:
