The Silk Sonic era will end before the next Grammys and I think Bruno will probably release his solo album this year.  The Grammys won't nominate Silk Sonic after LTDO awards, so competition will be between Adele, Kendrick and Beyonce

The Grammy's aren't going to award a Black person two years in a row, we know how they are

Adele will easily win even if it’s undeserved 

I'm 95% sure the only reason they gave We Are AOTY this year is so they would get minimal backlash next year when they decide to give it to 30

Harry is the biggest threat. He was kept out of the general field nominations last time by the secret committees, but that can't happen this time as there are no more committees.

The Grammy’s love Bruno. He’s the “safe” POC pick and the Recording Acadamy members would rather chop their legs off than give AOTY to a rap album.

People are really underestimating Adele. The Grammys don't care that 30 was frontloaded or gays find it boring lol. The Grammys LOVE throwbacks to the "golden age" of music and 30 has lots of 50-70s inspired music. 

 

Kendrick will be the most acclaimed but the Grammys like easily accessible music. He will also have the disadvantage of splitting with Silk Sonic and possibly Beyoncé (who will also be highly acclaimed). 

 

I think Adele has it in the bag. If anyone could beat Adele it will be Silk Sonic but their album is already completely forgotten

please let Kendrick win this time because it's long overdue and the other two already won before and both albums (30 and SS) are flopping compared to their last wins (25 and 24KM) and not as great

I have a feeling Adele won't be nominated.

 

It's Kendrick's to lose but if Beyonce releases and Kendrick and Beyonce votesplit and Bruno gets it from a 2nd votesplit ala 2018 (Jay Z/Kendrick) with Silk Sonic it's going to be a mess.

 

There's NO reason for SS to win.

OT: this actually could be interesting, Pop voters will vote for Adele, R&B voters will vote for Silk Sonic and the Rap voters will vote for Kendrick 

I think the line up will tell us the winner, if there’s many pop albums nominated (Harry, Ed, etc) Adele will lose, if there’s many R&B albums nominated  (SZA, Summer, Bey?) Silk sonic won’t win, and if they nominate a lot of  rap albums (Jack, Future, Gunna, etc) votes would split and Kendrick wouldn’t be very competitive 

each three of them should hope their respect genre doesn’t have other big contenders

Exactly, and now there’s 10 nominees (who get the nom from a straight/popular vote as you said) so the likelihood of Adele missing is super low 

The mess though if Adele wins against Kendrick and Bey  She wouldn’t even go onstage this time, she would probably just yell at them from her seat to give it to Bey instead

But all the same, I feel there’s a real chance that the album will have so thoroughly passed from the public consciousness in the months still to come before nominations that it could miss the list. Certainly we’ve learned by now that the pull of her name alone is not infinite; it has going for it that it was critically acclaimed, but if it doesn’t feel particularly present at the time of nomination, couldn’t it be that other albums, especially those yet to come, are prioritized by the voters?

 

In any case, getting the nomination is only one step, and the easier step at that in her case. I don’t feel that she has the narrative any longer to win this over some of the other artists releasing or who are rumored to be releasing. Kendrick has the overdue win narrative, Harry will make a strong play for it, Bruno has of course become something of a Grammy favorite, and there’s still more to consider from the next six months as well. The votes would have to split almost perfectly to yield a win for an artist who has had multiple wins in the category already (a rarity in itself) and whose narrative was always simply “well, she’s Adele” - which is no longer worth what it was when she was in the running for her first or second AOTY.

 

I won’t discount the possibility that she wins it, but it’s no longer the inevitability that I think people expected (and that others quoting me very clearly still expect). I also don’t want to discount the possibility that other albums take up its spot on the short list!

Not really, how you convince 12,000 NARAS members that includes all our faves, their producers etc. to vote We Are? There's no such move to minimal backlash. The legit explanations are vote split and wider genre-appeal.
