Well Drake, Harry and Adele has released so maybe there's no album bombs for some times until Christmas.

We might be stable for a good 6-10 more weeks. All the known album bomb artists dropping 2020-last month.

The only shock would be someone like Rihanna or Ariana drops

BMS is having great success but Formation was a whole event.

Either way BMS is the lead single.

Unpopular opinion I wish Formation got this treatment esp when it got a huge performance before the album drop.

BMS was the first and only single announced to promote her new album. That's the definition of a lead single.

True, I guess it doesn't feel as obvious as in the past because of obvious reasons.

Parkwood drafts: "The release of a lead single after the parent album's release and peak at #1 is another culture-shifting move..."

I think this is the most popular opinion in her. #Justice4Formation

Formation's Google Trend versus BMS. :jonny4:

Pretty sure the controversial Superbowl performance & exposure to 100 million+ people its first weekend had more to do with that than how ppl liked the song or not

503s are one thing but the comment box being unusable irks me. I forgot what I was gonna say. :rip:

With the right promo strategy Cuff It could be an Uptown Funk-sized smash :jonny5:I love Alien but Cuff It makes the most sense.

We all do lol.

Formation sold 190k pure digital sales after one month of being offered for free. That is mega smash behavior.

So excited about Bey’s new song with Ron Isley!  Legend tings!

Not even 1 month. 2.5! Feb 6/7 all the way to April 23?

I personally love how Formation ended up going down. Do I wish it was an instant #1 hit, of course, but it all worked out anyway...it became one of the most awarded songs/videos of all time, it was almost an instant classic in her discography, it was super impactful, the only thing missing is chart reflection of that. And as a fan of the artistry, I am really glad that she's done stuff like this which emphatically shows where she stands in regards to music vs. commerce...that some things ARE about the music (even if it's connnected overall to commerce).

No other mainstream artist I can think of, no other artist without a #1 hit since 2009 would have released a LEAD SINGLE FOR FREE while also performing it at the Super Bowl. That to is BIG moves, like the definition of confidence, that she said "no" to it being a hit and seemingly for principle.

Also now that BMS is #1, it feels even better because she hasn't had one in so long, and this felt more-or-less organically earned.

This Grammy cycle is going to be such a bloodbath. Fortunately the deadline is September 30 so I don't anticipate any other heavy hitters releasing until after the eligibility window closes. A few things to consider regarding submissions & competition:

  • BMS should be pushed in pop categories & ROTY. In recent years, these two categories have basically been a popularity contest so they need to push the song from Ren that most people will recognize to garner votes.
  • While I do think 'Cuff It' has time to become a monster hit, it would need to peak at just the right time to be competitive in BPSP. The song would have to peak at the right time (i.e., during voting between December 14 and Jan 4 which is going to be impossible with the Christmas freeze).
  • I would like to see Renaissance (album) compete in pop but she'll probably be placed in Progressive R&B.
  • Unlike other genres, pop doesn't have a "committee" or do genre voting so every voter from every genre/committee is eligible to vote. I think this bodes well because she'll have support from other genres (i.e., R&B). I think we'll see a vote splitting between Harry and Adele allowing for someone with cross-genre support to sweep in (Doja from rap, Bey from R&B, perhaps a wildcard pick).
  • The general field nominations are a tossup.
    • Kendrick: Unlikely to win. His last album is more divisive than TPAB and DAMN (and he's lowkey red pill'd).
    • Harry: Will only be competitive if he overperforms in the technical categories (e.g., MV, engineer non-classical) so it's too early to tell how the voters will respond.
    • Adele: Undefeated since 21 era :rip: Do I even need to say more.

Lol, I forgot it was that long. :rip:

Just imagine, almost 3 months for free.

Honestly I’m ok with Bey just collecting the Progressive R&B accolades for this era and really hitting it hard with Act II. Too many darlings have released this cycle.

I also agree! I think if it went #1 - it would have seemed like she used the message for a commercial hit.

By limiting its success - it brought the attention back to the real message.
