I'm just really into music "industry" side of things overall, and try to look at situations like Bey/Grammy predicament holistically. With all the variables and considerations factored in. 

 

Anyone's guess if Bey is winning, but I really stand by the fact that this is the year the stars most "logically" line-up in her favour. Not just musically and critically, but contextually in terms of all that's going on with the Grammys.

Yeah, I think it’s VERY unfair and holding black women to impossible standards for the Academy to basically signal that they have to have extreme commercial success AND extreme acclaim to even have a shot. 
 

I get that that’s been the criteria all this time (see: Miseducation, The Bodyguard), but it spells absolute disaster for future black female artists who don’t penetrate the culture the way Mimi’s Emancipation or any of Bey’s 4 nominated albums did.  Like you’re telling me Mariah and Bey can’t win it, but you’re going to somehow hand it to SZA or H.E.R in the future? I doubt it. It’s finna be another 20 years without a black female winner.

I beg to differ. It's the opposite!! Her loss will generate so much press (all press is good press) and have everyone arguing. PLUS it will ensure that the hive (some) will stay GLUED to future events begging for a Beyoncé win, no matter how many times they **** on her on live TV. Clearly ST wasn't enough for many of you, neither was lemonade, so they know y'all hoes ain't got the principles you tout in terms of the grammys and their relevance to bey's career and keep coming back. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The Grammy show is **literally** executive produced by Jesse Collins who is **literally** signed to Jay/Roc Nation. I think y'all get where I'm going. Not so much from a wins perspective, as that's the academy. But in terms of how and where she shows up on the broadcast. It will be carefully stage-managed to HER benefit. 

 

Plus, you know there's some kind of shine coming her way if they are bending backwards to secure an "on stage appearance" that very likely won't even be a performance. Knowing that she likely won't let them even pre-announce her attendance (ala 2021), it's highly unlikely they are doing the most to get on her the show just to snub her in any kind of major way. Not impossible, but unlikely. Especially with a Roc Nation employee producing the show.

Has a black woman even won AOTY since Lauryn? They only give it to black men it seems, and then only for albums no one would ever listen to, I'm sorry A Joni Mitchell cover album by Herbie Hancock, like... It is time for a black female solo artist to win again, it has always been time for a black female solo artist to win. They'll give it to a flop like Jon Batiste so they can pat themselves on the back, and then when it's time to give it to a black woman who actually deserves it they go ahead and give it to the likes of Adele, Taylor Swift, Beck, Mumford & Sons, Billie Eilish... It's ish like this really infuriates me. People actively choose to overlook the problematic trend and blindly or intentionally make it a "quality of music" thing, not understanding that aligning with the trend is in essence saying: Black women / Black talent make good music to be nominated, but not good **enough** to be rewarded. Which we all know is objectively untrue. 

I don't think Beyoncé is winning AOTY, but even if she loses the award sitting front row AGAIN, best believe the moment her next album drops and wins universal acclaim the same Hive and Hive pages who no longer "care" for the Grammys, will once again make the AOTY nomination and win the centerfold of the era.

 

It's tired. Beyoncé has been doing her thing for 25 years, she's been a solo superstar for 20 and is one of, if not the most accomplished artist of her generation. An AOTY grammy will not and should not define her career, but this hyperfocus and obsession with this award is starting to overshadow Beyoncé's eras. EVERYTHING is about that AOTY, and it's tiring when that is the ONLY point of discussion come a Beyoncé album.

 

I stopped messing with the Grammy's YEARS ago, and after ST and Lemonade I'm still confused as to why some Hive members who routinely complain about the industry and its biases are still so obsessed with this award show.

 

The industry gave CARPOOL KAREOKE an Emmy over Homecoming, like this is who we know we're dealing with but it's the same thing every single time.
