I think most people expected high debut numbers, afterall, she just came off of her biggest era ever. What I'm still questioning is if this album will have legs. Without any big hits, one would think that it may not. I think she'll release her album on streaming services soon to maximize her overall SPS and float around the top for longer.

Most people expected good numbers, but not THIS big. For example, if we go in old prediction threads about TS6's first week sales, the majority said it would do under 1M.

Actually 39 said that it would do 1m+. 23 said it would do less.

As if only ONE thread was made on the question. In another one, 59% said it would do less, 41% said it would do 1M+. In another one, 53% said it would do under, 47% said it would do over.  Not to mention that the majority who said she'd do 1M+ still said she'd do less than 1989

I know Adele has the female (and overall) record now, so it doesn't really matter, but I'm amazed that she'll beat Britney's former sales record for OIDIA. I remember when Speak Now came out, people said album sales are decreasing, this is her first and only chance to do it, and she's been increasing her first week sales ever since Incredible

With the album not being up for streaming and the songs not available for individual purchase there is basically no difference between pure sales and SPS. 20k at most. 

If she can pull a 1M+ opening week with this album, considering the no promo, underwhelming radio presence, bad media coverage, there's no stopping in sight for Taylor Swift any time soon
