Do you like your name?

Featured Replies

I've been thinking about how much a name shapes the way people perceive you before they even meet you. Personally, I feel like I lucked out because my name is kinda perfect for how I want to present myself. It feels distinctive without being too unusual, cosmopolitan without trying too hard, and geographically ambiguous enough that you can't immediately pin me to one country (which is exactly the vibe I'd like to give). Obviously a name doesn't define who you are, but I do think some names just fit the person and the image they want to project. I also have three middle names, which I think adds another layer of character and makes it feel even more distinctly me.

Do you like your name/feel like your name represents you well, or would you change it if you could? It's time for...

I couldn't have picked a better name for me, to be honest. Both my first name and last name are perfect. Thank you dad I'll love you forever heart

I do, it's a bit too common and it's short but I like it bird

i used to hate my name growing up as every white person would pronounce it wrong, but i've come to love it more since it's fairly unique bird

Yes it flows perfectly. I have two middle names and a hyphenated last so it’s important that it sounds good lol. My mom set me up for success.

You know what I like best about my name? How it sounds coming out of your mouth. 😮‍💨

I have the same name of one of my country most hated presidents.
I honestly wonder sometimes how many doors have been closed to me because of that, considering how many rejections I've been getting.
I hate my name.
I wanna change my name to something more sophisticated, but my family is being annoying about it and all the legalities and stuff

Online, I go by a different name. I have like 7–10 different names lmao.
I'm also interested in making music, and I already have my stage name picked out. A very iconic one, lemme tell you gayalipacat2

Flabby fitted me well at one point but I've lost 66lbs this year already so I might have to make it into my middle name instead.

it's okay I guess. I'm kind of ambivalent on the matter. I mean I definitely own it and do the best I can with it michael like many people, my last name is significantly cooler and more unique than my first name. I hate the implication of what I go by, i.e. my technical nickname, being a preceder of the potential for being average ("your average Joe") but at the same time I understand why my mother's intergenerational trauma caused her to name my four older siblings and me the way she did. it's all about how "with simpler, more all-American names, once you arrive to the job market, you'll be most likely out of all candidates to receive a call back. it's all about simple, easy to pronounce for everyone first names and last names." like okay girl. and she was telling me sh*t like that even before my elementary school years. like sure. could've named me something like Mordechai or Abraham or Mikhail or Natan but nah. Joseph and then I was automatically Joe from the time I was a toddler. same goes for my two older bros (Thomas but goes by Tom, Jacob but goes by Jake). my sisters got common first names too. it's fine cause I've never met anyone with my last name who wasn't related to me, so it's relatively rare, and my mom's maiden name would've been somewhat rare too (not nearly as rare but still not the #1 most common Jewish surname), but like… idk dude. they could've gone in a little bit more creative of a direction for all 5 of us. but the trauma informed them that we'd need basic first names michael

simultaneously, there's a symmetry to my name that I appreciate (when I write what I go by on paper it's a 3 letter first name and a 5 letter surname so that's perfect at 8 letters. succinct and looks pretty on paper). there's also something iconic about my name and about my siblings' names. my dad and Tom also both have the 8 letter thing going on and it's cute. #lifeofajoe so yeah I have good feelings and bad feelings about my name to be tl;dr bout it giraffe

No I hate it. Its why I always ask people to call me marn or whatever username I end up having. But everyone calls me from my name and they don't realize I hate it. I hate it with a passion. My bestie calls me moo. She's only one that gets it

Yes, and I love how I don't know a single other person with it and I very rarely encounter it in media.
