ATRL Universe,

A few months ago, we made the decision to disable search as part of the changes needed to keep ATRL stable on our previous hosting setup. Since moving to our new self-hosted server, things have held up pretty well. We’ve had a few hiccups along the way, but overall, the difference has been night and day compared to the server we were on prior to the move to Invision Cloud.

Behind the scenes, we’ve also been slowly working to restore features that had to be disabled. First up: search is coming back.

Last week, we began indexing ATRL’s more than 26 million posts so they could once again be searchable. The moderation team has been testing the feature, and we’re now ready to begin rolling it out to members.

We’ll start by opening search to ATRL+ members effective immediately. After a few days of testing, ATRL+ members will also regain access to the Hall of Archives. Assuming everything continues to run smoothly, as we expect it will, search will then be opened to all registered members, followed by the Hall of Archives.

Guests will not have access to search.

This will be a gradual rollout so we can keep an eye on server performance at each stage rather than bringing everything back at once. If all goes as planned, one of ATRL’s most requested missing features will finally be back for everyone.

Funnily enough the search tool is kind of why I joined ATRL. I came looking for Coldplay sales receipts because all my chart friends said this was a good place. I stayed for the mess though.
