What went wrong with Doja's ''Vie''?

Featured Replies

Everyone had expected Doja's follow up to Scarlet to be a return to her pop rap music, and the hype was there. But it underperformed massively and left no impact and largely came and went. What went wrong for Doja?

idk but she deserves acclaim and success! I love that album

but yeah, probably as the poster above me said, too late with the 80s throwback

Her weird online antics turned a lot of her already minuscule fan base off.

The album is boring and insipid. Too late to that trend

I'll always think bad marketing is the main factor. The era itself literally came and went because it all happened in the span of ~1-2 months with no buildup or hype. The music itself is objectively palatable and decentkitty

Jack Antonoff. Sabrina hype was huge (Far bigger than doja) and look how her new album underperformed-midperformed compared to short n sweet. Look the mediatraffic positions and compare

It was a bad decision from both to work with him as main producer instead of new fresh producers.
Hope they move from that guy

This thread again.... It was too much of a 180 in a short amount time from Scarlet. Most people still remembered & held the "haha you guys are stupid for liking my pop albums!!!!" tweets over her head.

There was no drastic sound change. From Planet Her to Scarlet FOR MY EARS the quality got notched up a little bit. Vie sounds like an album of unfinished demos.

Anyways for me

  1. Scarlet

  2. Hot Pink

  3. Planet Her

And the others I haven't gotten into enough.

It just wasn't her best work in my opinion. michael Never got the hype for Jealous Type in particular but I know this site was loving it. It was all a bit boring.

The album cover debacle where she lashed on fans who didn't get the meaning of the digital one deadbanana2

MBF had a major hit single (cowritten/produced by Jack) and like 4 other viral songs. But I think that album had a consciously smaller-scale era to accommodate the SnS Tour. It was kinda radio silence between Manchild and the album drop, and there was never a fully-committed push for another song. kitty

I think people do too much with the Jack hate

Scarlet antics turned off the general listeners, she doesn't have a dedicated fanbase yet(somehow), no big hit before the album

too bad, its some of her best work yet kitty

I wished the whole album was like Jealous Type and Ah-Men

It's an extremely boring album. I've been ******* with her music since she only had the EP out & that first listen was beyond disappointing to me. I haven't heard the album in its entirety since. Devoid of everything that makes her an interesting artist. It lacked personality & felt 100% anonymous

she doesn't have many fans and the songs weren't catchy enough to bring interest in the album

The music was not good commercial or interesting. She's one of those non-descript artists without a fan base who will do really well if they have a hit song but really bad if they don't. Like Dua Lipa.
